Unhappy Well it happened

Well i guess i am all done for the winter, the truck will be sitting now for quite a while
yesterday at about 2:30 pm est i was on my way to work and i figured i would see just how hard this new ported blower would pull
so as i got on to some nice open highway i rolled into her pretty good, making sure not to downshift, and man can i tell ya that i am very happy with this blower
it simply pulls like a raped ape! and i am now up to 16lbs of boost, up from 14lbs
alas it was just not ment to be
at 133mph and about 4600 rpms in 3rd gear i felt a shudder and all you could see was white smoke everywhere
i instantly put her in N and shut her down
as i come to a stop the smoke starts to pour out from the hood, as i get out of the truck i notice the rear tire is wet and i proceed to open the hood.
first i look at the coolant bottle---- EMPTY
i then pull out the dip stick-------- BENT LIKE A DOUGHNUT
so i call the wrecker get it up on the flatbed and take her to dads house
so now she sleeps in the back yard for a bit as i figure out how i am going to do this

Mike,

Really sorry to hear about the truck woes, man. Did you just recently change pullies or put on a ported Eaton (you mentioned 2 more lbs of boost)? It really seems like the cold weather is taking an abnormally high toll on a lot of our Brother's trucks this past month. My heart goes out to you, Bud.

Damn, that really sucks.
Just one more reason for me to not go overboard on mods.
I will go as far as a 4# and that is about it.

Then when i have the time and money i will get the engine built up with good rods and the like.

I dont think i could handle my engine popping like that.
Heck im stock and i freak out everytime i downshift to pass a car on the highway.

Good luck getting her running again.

Even with 4#, you can still blow the motor.... anything over stock will blow the motor. It is all in the tune that you have, and its abilities to perform in the different temperature ranges. Also, most chip programs are not designed for sustained WOT runs as you speak of.
Remember - these trucks are more than likely tuned in warm weather.... they act completely different in the cold, and some programs don't compensate for that. Be very careful in your choice of tuner and explain to him/her exactly the parameters that you will run the truck in.

Yeah i know what you mean and I agree with you.
But damn, so many folks have popped their engines during the last 2-3 weeks and all cause of the cold weather.

Its scary.

The same thing happens every year ... Weather turns cold and agressive warm weather tunes end up being too much to handle.

Thats why some tuners have warm weather and cold weather programs. If you search you will find DOZENS of examples of cold weather sustained high speed runs that were the LAST thing the engine did....

Sorry you got hit by it....

Doug

Sorry to hear

But its the same thing every winter............blown motors.

While not list in the classifies that you are looking for a used stock motor. Alot of motors going in trucks this winter and maybe you can pick up a used short block cheap

Sorry to hear about your motor. So what was your tune like? Timing? A/F? Boost?

Sorry

Sorry to hear man.......but you should have known better. It was only about 40 yesterday........and i'm sure that ported blower leaned out your tune.

JDM had a couple of used motors that they have replaced with built ones......some had low miles. Give them a call. Probably the best bet..........have it shipped up for 100 bucks or less. Talk to Jim III,
