New to Forum

Hello all,

I am looking at a 1999 Red Lightning with 26,000 miles. No mods, all stock. I have some questions that I hope you can answer. Looks like a great forum, and I hope to soon be a Ford Lightning owner.

Here are my questions:

1) Production numbers for 1999

2) I noticed foaming around inside of oil cap, but I've notice this on every Lightning I have looked at. Is this condensation or a serious problem? Or, is it just a characteric caused by condensation, being that the oil cap neck is a further distance from the engine, instead of being on the valve cover?

3) Interior group: What's the difference in the interior group on the 1999 and 2000, opposed to the 2001 and up.

4) Changes in engine, besides horse power in the '99-'00 opposed to the '01-present

5) What things should I look for other than normal wear and tear, that would be a characteristic of these trucks.

6) Can anyone here do a Vin check that would show any warranty work done. Let me know and I'll supply the vin #.

Thanks all for any help!

I can help you with #2: normal in cold weather and yes, it's condensation. My 01 had it 'bad' last winter.

I like the 99/00's except for the 3.55 rear end vs. the 3.73 rear for 01 and up. Be sure the intercooler-recall has been done.

Welcome,

Chainsaw13 has a very clean red 01 for sale in SE Mich. (always garaged)

What things should I look for other than normal wear and tear, that would be a characteristic of these trucks.
On the 99s I believe there was a intercooler recall and some had problems with fuel lines being loose.

Also, some folks have had thier sparkplugs come out. Might wanna ask if he's ever checked them. (mine were not loose. but they wern't exactly tight either)

I know it isn't PA, but Brandon Ford has 5 brand new 04 Lightnings they REALLY want to get rid of...

A 1-way ticket to Tampa International shouldn't be more than $200 if you shop around with a little lead time.

Forget the MSRP... Call them and let them know your intentions - they typically work pretty good deals.

5 New Lightnings Here

I just saw on a Ford commercial tonight that they're running a $5,700 rebate on F-150's. I don't know if that includes the Lightning or not.

I don't really want to spend the money on a new one. The price I'm looking to spend would put me in a '99 or '00. The one I was looking at was $16K with 26,000 miles on it. The reason I didn't take it was that apparantlly there was a leak in the back window and water got into the 6 cd changer in the compartment behind the passenger seat where the CD player is stored, and it shorted it out. Plus the seats got soaked and the rugs got soaked. Even the inside of the windshield was wet. What I liked about it was that it was completely stock. Even the air cleaner was stock. I like the lower rear on the '99 and '00 as well. I'm not looking to race it, just use it for pleasure rides. I sold my 2002 Electron Blue Z06 Corvette and my 1998 Torch Red Corvette coupe. Waiting for the new Z06 to hit the streets.

Thanks everyone for all the help. If there is anyone in the NJ or PA area that has a red '99 or '00 Lightning in the price range I'm looking, let me know. There's a lot out here in the area I'm in, but there either black or white, and my wife and I are partial to the red. Any color looks great on the Lightning though.

Thanks all. I decided to go with a 2001 today 1/1 /2005, It's bright Red, 9,715 miles on it. I got it from a private owner. It seems that all the Red Lightnings that were mint at the dealers, were priced at $24,000. I got this one from a private owner who had brought it to a dealer to trade, but not getting enough, so I took it off his hands for $21,200. It has the tonneau cover, bedliner, it was garage kept, never raced, completely stock. Documented with all maintenence records and original window sticker. He was asking $23,900 but was moving and had to sell. I think it was a fair price, and I'm really happy with it. It felt to me, like I was buying a brand new 2004. Thanks for all your help. I guess I will stick around now. Great to be here.
