Might be going to the Darkside!!!

well guys, ive been on the cobra forums for quite a while now and was just waiting on selling my Lightning until getting the cobra..i was planning on making the trade right after x-mas, so ive been in the process on trying to find a nice low millage terminator, my whole life ive had a love for cars, but mainly been a ford guy, i love the terminators and know almost everthing there is to know about them..and had plans to go the ported blower/nitrous route when i got mine...yesterday a long time family friend who is CEO of the Mercedes/Porche/Lexus Dealer in jacksonville allerted me on a wonderful trade they got on the lot...2003 50th annv. red Z06, 5,500 miles, red/black interior...beautiful looking car! i drove the car and was very impressed, awesome power, sound, and my god the handling!! normally i would not consider it, being out of my price range, but heres the best part...he is willing the wholesale the car to me for a price that i would be stupid not to go for..especially for what im getting...i know alot of people have much respect for the Z06, as do i, even though it is a very big rival car for the cobra guys...if i were to get the car i would just put nice wheels on it, and add the nitrous kit i have sitting in my gargae off my Lightning, and have one bad ride...im not asking your guys what to do,jsut looking for some opinions and rambling on a bit, i will still always be a ford guy and probably end up getting the new cobras when they come out,...if anything, i can drive the vette for a while, then sell it and make money on it..sorry for rambling on....and its not for sure yet..still on the maket for a terminator if the vette doesnt go through..but i hope you guys will still let me hang out!

A deal is a deal- before Suavy hooked me up with an X-plan, I was seriously looking at GM products simply based on my supplier discuount. I too am a Ford guy, but a Z-06 at a screaming price in nothing to sneeze at. Best of luck with your decision.

Go for it! The 03 Z06 has been driven to an 11.9 in the 1/4 bone stock, factory tires, factory paper air filter!!!! That's insane if you ask me! Being an LS1 enthusiast I will tell you first hand that, take your heads off have them CNC ported or just buy a set of ported LS6 heads, a little bigger cam and a few odds and ends and you will have a solid low 11 second car, possibly 10's naturally aspirated depending on the cam setup you go with!

LeoGSVT,

Just let me have the Vette at the price you were going to get it for. Then you will not feel so bad for going to the dark side. LOL I've been thinking about going this way for awhile now. Course being a open track guy the Vette is much better for the track than the L is. I may wait for the new Cobra instead though.

Hey would you care to share this "to good to pass up price." There have been some BIG discounts on new left overs up here and have seen a bunch of used ones going for what seems pretty cheap to me. Just wondering what he is offering you. I would get one in White and that would probably be my only color choice. Goodluck with whatever you decide. -Mat-

I've been watching corvetteforum for the past 8 months or so. You can find a 02 Z06 for mid 20's and and '03 for upper 20's low 30's. '04's I've seen selling for upper 30's used with low miles. Better deals seem to be modded C5's around a '00 or '01.

Or you can get a classic '69.

If a feller has to go to the dark side either destroy one (like I'm doing to THIS ONE ) or something nice like a vette is worthy IMO.

Leo,

If you really like the car, then buy it. I've had my '02 Z06 since new and its a fabulous car. It was the first GM car I had owned in 12 years.

I ran a small nitrous shot on mine for 15 months with no issues at all. I only made it to the track once, but it ran 11.68 @ 128mph...obviously smoking the tires into 3rd gear. With just some drag radials, it would have run low-11s, if not high-10s.

I moved on to the twin-turbo route, but you will really enjoy the car if you can buy it. 5500 miles is nothing. Is the car stock now?

My buddy has a ZO6, and loves it. It's prohibitively expensive to modify, though, so be prepared.

Funny thing - I just sold my 'Vette to buy a Lightning!

Insurance is much less on a Z06 than it is on an SVT Cobra.

It's $362/6 mos. vs. $329/6 mos for my Lightning. If $33 will kill you, then you shouldn't be driving a performance vehicle.

Depends upon age, demographics and past record. If one is under 25 yrs old in California for example,it can be very costly. I have seen many young adults pay in excess of 150.00 a month for insurance. I am sure the individual that this post is directed to is below 25. Thanks for your inputs anyway!

Where did I say a 33,000 vehicle will kill you...I was refering to the cost of insurance of a performance vehicle. My lightning is only 300.00 for 6 mos. You are paying too much....Get GEICO!
