I am a tech at a dealer, and from how you are describing it, I see no reason it should not be covered? It sounds as if the material is peeling. it happens.

I own a 2003 Lighting and recently I noticed that the chrome plating on the inside drivers door handle has started to peel off. (I believe it to be from heat. As I live in So. Fla and the truck is parked in the sun at work and at home.) The truck only has 15,000 miles on it. So I take it back to Plantation Ford where I bought the truck. I go in and tell one of the service reps about it. He comes out and looks at it and tells me I must have taken a knife to it..... So I ask for the manger and he comes out, looks at it, and basically tells me hes never seen anything like this, blah, blah, blah. In a nut shell they said they are not going to cover it under warranty.

Is there anything that can be done?? I can't believe these people would think I would intentionally take a knife to the door handle. I told them it was from the So Fla heat. But they where convinced I took a knife to it.

I also have an 03'. I had the same problem with the chrome flaking off the handle. It's not the heat, I live in Vermont. I think it was poor prep before chroming. It was replaced under warrenty. Tell them to call Heritage Ford in Burlington Vermont if they want to verify a case. Have them look in my folder( Peter J. Pappas).

Almost everything is covered under the 3 years 36,000 mile warranty except the usual stuff that wears like brake pads, even tires are pro-rated, so don't accept a no, as suggested go to another dealer or go higher up the ladder. It comes to a point where it all boils down to ethics no matter how small the part is. BTW those handles are a little pricey. Let us know how it all turned out. I waited too late to change out my cracked fog lights, the service guy said it was covered but I was about 1000 miles over the 36,000 mile warranty.

Good news, I found a Ford dealer that will replace the door handle under warranty. Thanks for all your help.

If you look in your warrenty manual, there is a committe you can write to help with those problems.

Is Plantation Ford on Pines?

When I was shopping for Lightning, they had a sales manager that pissed me off so much I walked out and he lost the sale. He had the gall to tell me that he could not give me his best (lowest) price unless I was ready to buy. I told him, "how can I make a decision on whether I am ready to buy when you won't tell me what gthe best you can do is?" He then said the best he can do is MSRP. That's when I walked. Rant over....

I was wondering if that was the same dealer.

Get the Harley Davidson handles as replacements. They are chrome plated instead of silver looking.

Yes, its Plantation Ford that wouldn't cover it. I'm glad World Ford in P. Pines is going to cover it.

My '03 driver's handle is peeling also. This appears to be a common problem. :-(
