what is wrong with my pinion angle

i just dont get anymore, ive been fooling round with this for weeks now, it seems as if its way woirse now

ok last week my pinion angle was at an angle of +3

now it seems as if its at a + 6-8

what i did was add 4 degree shims with the thin part facing forward!

My truck truck was lowered in the rear by means of 2" drop shackles and removing 2 leafs (its a 2004)

so i was told that adding these shims would correct my angle.

So i was just out in the garage and when i let the truck down i couldnt belive my eyes, this is what i have now.

And no, im not driving the truck like this, my truck is put away for the winter

You put the shims in backwards??

The thin part of the shims need to be point toward the rear.

do you think the 4 degree shims are enuff to make it normal or should i add the stock shims on top of it as well?

You went from +3 to +7. Seems to me that puts you at the +4 degree difference. +3 minus 4 should give you -1. Isn't that what you were aiming for?

Joel.....

I've been a big advocate of removing a leaf to improve ride and to lower the truck, but I find the idea of removing two leaves a bit scary. That gets you down to only three leaves and the truck has enough power to wrap those leaves into an "S" shape instantly. Here's what actually happens. When you hit the throttle, the engine turns the driveshaft to move the vehicle... Yeah, we all know that. But: the vehicle moves because the tires and axles turn. Now if the differential is not adequately supported, it tries to turn as well. After all, it has the pinion and ring gear, so if the tires have bite, why shouldn't it turn the opposite way. It does. and when it does, the pinion nose climbs and the front half of the springs go "C" shaped with the "C" pointing down and the rear of the springs go "C" shaped with the "C" pointing up. It rotates until the pinon nose hits the snubbber. Then the shock of it hitting makes the tires slip for an instant and the rear end rotates violently downward. Then the process begins again and you have wheel hop and a chance to destroy your driveshaft. If you want it that low, toss the 2003/2004 springs and get a pair of the early ones. One leaf out of those and you are almost at the same height as two out of the late ones, but you'll still have some traction. If you want to stay with your springs, you've got to add traction bars or lay in a good stock of driveshafts. If you need early springs, I've got 'em.

kerno-- If i ge ta set of older springs 99-2002 that have 4 leafs and I remove one, dosnt that bring me to 3 leafs? The same as removing 2 leafs from my 2004 which already has 5 to begin with??

if not how much do you want for your leafs? Im gueesing it would be outta the question since im in canada and shipping would be outrageous
