the taller the tire, the better the rollout off the line and quicker 60' times.

Off-topic, but is your stock hood a lift-off?

oh oh oh I know the answer to this one... That's my Black Lightning sitting behind his in that picture.

I'll let Rich answer. You'll need an engineer to explain.

Vinnie,

I have researched extra wide rear tires ad nauseum. I don't post here a lot, but if you were to do a search on the subject, my ID would come up several times.

Going to something really wide like a 335mm or something puts you in a Viper tire... 26.xx" tall. There are lots of choices, but nothing out there that is really feasible and is still ~28" tall.

My HRE 645R's should be here in a week or two. I'll post some pics when I get them. They will be like Rob's above, only a brushed aluminum center with the chrome wheel lips. I think it will look nice on DSG.

Good luck.

Did he use spacers on the hinges to raise the hood for an effect similar to a cowl hood...drawing fresh air into the engine bay?

Backspacing on Forgelines

Todd,

The backspacing on the 18x9.5 RS-3's was 6 inches ( stock is 5.8). I have a 99 Lightning so the center areas were custom machined to fit the front hub mounting area. I believe that 01 and up have a flat front hub so the rims would look more like the advertisement pics. They are manufactured by The Wheel Source in Ohio, but I purchased from Ken Mitchell automotive in Ca. Wheels fit perfectly with no grinding on calipers necessary. The pictures do not capture how good the quality really is!!!

Would 5.5" backspacing work on 18x9.5 rims? Just curious if there would be any clearance problems. Or, if they would stick out too much or be tucked under the fender too much (I'm not exactly sure which of the two would occur with this backspacing).

No it's a old coger speed secret.

That's exactly what I did.

No actually the opposite. It relieves the delta P of the engine room. They only way a real "cowl induction" hood works is if it were 100% sealed with a air path leading to the air cleaner.
