I had the same thing happen to me about my boat. Apparently, it's almost a verbatim email they send to get you to reply. I wrote an elaborate reply about how I was working for the FBI and how I traced his IP address (even though that's impossible with free email servers) etc. I've had no reply since.

Go to www.ebolamonkeyman.com so see somebody f*ck with the scammers. It's pretty funny.
Personally, I save all my scam emails then forward them to other scammers. It drives them crazy

It wouldn't be such a prolific scam if someone didn't fall for it at some point.Originally posted by bglanden

Hey bros.... I can't believe this scam is surfacing again. This has been used to buy everything up to and including vehicles. I am a cop in the town that I live in and one day I get a call to a fraud at the local (coincidentally) Ford dealer. This salesman has about a months worth of BS emails from a guy "overseas". Same kind of deal ......he wants to send a check for way more than the amount of the car. He wants the dealer to write a check for the overage and give the car and and the money to his "son" who will pick up the car. Fortunatly the salesman thinks "something is up". We had the salesman string the guy along and actually set up a delivery time. The mope actually came in and our UC detectives nailed him for the fraud......too sweet actually catching him........ I say never sell anything unless it goes through a pay service....and even then you gotta hope the other guy actually has the item to send, of course thats easier to trace.

: HELLO,
good to be picked up from your location for onward shipping to London. Cost and modalities of shipping to be born by me. Payment for the purchase is by check through a debtor in US. The debtor owes me higher than my purchase($3500). He will therefore be sending you a check to cover the cost of my order,as well as the Shipping costs. On receipt of the check, you will cash and deduct the cost of my order .The balance you will send via western union to the shipping agent, as we would instruct you to the Agency that will ship the Goods to us. If this arrangement suites you fine, please send me your address where to send the check, as well as the name to be on the check. Also send me your phone number for easy communication.
NOTE: All cost of cashing the check at the cash point or money store should be deducted from the funds when cleared. Looking forward to hear from you.
This looks suspicious as the day is long to me

Strange I've been reading about this scam on this board the last couple of days and now I have first hand proof it's a scam. I work for the postal service and today and a lady comes in trying to cash a $950 postal money order she received for an item she sold on ebay. Our POS ONE unit (computer system the post office uses) rejected the money order and wouldn't cash it. Upon taking a closer look at this money order, it has no watermarks and a few other flaws you wouldn't notice at first glance. We start talking to the girl and she tells the story of this guy from Nigeria who bought it and said his wife was in the states and she had some money orders for more than the amount of the item he bought but instructed her to take the overage and Western Union his wife the rest. The postmark of this letter and money order he sent her is from Houston Tx but the guy said his wife is in Los Angeles. We turned the letter and money order over to the Postal Inspectors and see what they can do with it.
These scammers are something else I tell ya. I hope they bust these people!

Solutions:
1. Accept only PayPal. If they don't have PayPal, they can get it or forget it.
2. Require immediate payment for auctions and payment in full before removing fixed-price classifieds (first PayPal in my account takes it).
3. Ship only to the U.S. or Canada.
4. Demand a verified phone number before completing a transaction.
5. If it sounds at all fishy or like a hassle, walk away.
Bottom line: There is always another buyer waiting.
