What is the recommended jack weight for our trucks?

3 or 4 tons to safely lift the front of the vehicle?

Four is better than three in this case I would think, it's your life it's worth it. How much more are the four ton ones?

I hope you meant 4000lbs not 4 tons.

Sears makes a 4000lb aluminum jack that weighs approximately 37lbs. nice jack, around $199 but if you are a member of the Sears price club you can get it for $169 when they put it on sale or when Sears has their Blue Light special.

I use mine on my Super Duty also.

I use the aluminum craftsman jack. Its only rated for 2 tons.

It lifts the truck, but seems like it does struggle to lift the front end. I figured that its great for changing the rear tires out, because the rear of the truck is lighter then the front end.

I don't think I would trust any jack with my life, I think you should always have jack stands set up before going underneath.

I have the Harbor Freight Aluminum one and it's fine ...

5,000 / 2 = 2,500 pounds (Lifting front or rear ...) Or
you can lift one side at a time and jackstand it ... I have
noticed jacking on the cross member in the front has a
tendency to bend it.

i use a 2 1/2 ton jack, and it works just fine. so thats a 5000lb jack for a vehilce that weighs under 5000lb, and ur never lifting all that weight at once, at most probably about 3500lb.

Noooooooo ... don't buy that one!!! Believe me on this ... You
will hate it.... It takes a bazillion strokes to raise anything.

Sure.... the first stroke is quick to the take up point, but
all the rest are mini-strokes......

Trust us on this ... Get the racing jack ...

Don't those release super fast.....thus the "racing" designation.

Why not just go with the Craftsman jack.......

4000# Aluminum Jack
