Just raced a Z06

Just raced a Z06. What a rush! Here is some history, I live in a small town. So, I never see cars like this. One other Lightning in town, a handful of LS1's, and a few GT's. That's about it. Anyway, here is the story. I was coming home from the gym with my brother. I see/hear a silver Z06 going the other way. I was like, "oh yeah." I pull into a parking lot and flip around. Follow him to a grocery store parking lot. We talked for about 5 minutes. I told him he had a bad@ss car. He said it was his sister's! He asked me if my L had a 351ci in it?? I get asked that a lot. Anyway, I really didn't want to ask him to race. Felt weird??? Finally, after a strange 10 second silence, he says "So, I guess you want to race"? I said, "YES." We drove out to a county road. My brother(passenger) said, "ok on three." We both took off, side by side up to about 80mph, that's when he started to pull me. We both let off at around 100mph, he had me by about 3 car lengths. Afterwards, he was pretty surprised that my "pick-up" gave him a good run. What a fun night. What do you guys think? Pretty good showing for my L? Mods are in sig...

I'll say you did pretty good! You have to jump them out of the hole, when you get to 80 those cars take off. You could get him in the 1/4 (with your mods and cold air) but if you see the tail lights from the beginning forget about it!
I've raced a C-4 (not much of a race) and kinda raced a C-5 (traffic in the way) I spun, he didn't pulled 1.5 lengths on me!

Thanks bglanden. I really have to ease into the gas. I need some good DR's. Toyo Proxies don't hook at all. It also doesn't help that it's 40 degrees outside. Oh well, Z06's aren't slow cars..

Thumbs up Z06 experience

So I'm up front at a light and this Z06 pulls up with his girl in the passenger seat. Then you get that look over at each other and know it's time to go at it as soon as the light turns green. So we're going at it and we're both nose to nose out of the hole! When I hit second I started to pull away about half a car length, then when I hit third, there was no chance for him to catch lightning.By that time it was time to slow down and I noticed the driver seemed a little fustrated(hitting his steering wheel and feeling the embarassment in front of his girl). Cause he was just struck by lightning!!!So after telling the race story to a couple of other L friends, buddy of mine started calling me the WIDOW MAKER!! I guess cause once I beat anyone w/ their girl in the car they end up leaving their man for me!Thought I'd shared that story thats ends up being pretty humorous! To Z06 and any of their women!!

fast1...

Sounds like fun...I can't imagine how hard it must be to launch a Lightning in 40* weather with Proxies.
I have had the pleasure to drive a Z06 before and they are wicked fast

So what you're suggesting is that a 4lb pulley, Predator tune by a reputable tuner, and a K&N filter will run low, mid-12s @ 116mph?

B/c that's what my bone stock Z06 ran (12.36 @ 116+ on STOCK radials) in the 1/4 mile.

Hmm... guess all I need to do is swap my 2# for a 4# and I'll have a mid-12 second truck. On radials?

I also guess that with those mods, an L on the street will run 0-60 in 4.4 seconds or less? I highly doubt that. Add slicks, its a different story. Add slicks to the Z06 and it will run 11.7 or better bone stock.

fast1, good run. Sounds like you had fun! That's what is most important.

Stock Z06s are no slouches but its all in the driver. I have seen a number of stock Z06s with no filter go 12.20s on stock tires and go 11.80s with slicks on stock motor no filter.

I guess you're right, I didn't realize some people are getting those numbers stock! The two that I have witnessed at Cecil dragway were mid to high 12's, I assumed they were stock. Our trucks easily run close to mid 12's with 4 lb, chip, CAI and cold air.
