Anyone else break a forged crank?

I have my engine apart to fix a spun bearing on the #2 rod journal. While the local machine shop was turning the crank they noticed it was flexing in the machine. They magna-fluxed it and discovered the #5 journal had a crack all the way around the crank . Guess I'm lucky it didn't come apart in the engine... especially while I was driving.

Anyone else crack or break their cranks?
Anyone have a spare they want to sell ?

Thanks MadNess. Love the flames on your truck.

Hey didn't someone post saying they had a crank for sale? The post disappeared before I could respond.

Cool

HI!... I'm surprised you broke a FORD 5.4 forged crank. The way they come out of the factory those cranks laugh at 900H.P (flywheel). How much H.P/TQ are you making? Are you sure you have a forged STEEL crank? Some 5.4's have cast cranks. They are very rare but they are out there. I believe one of the LIGHTNING tuners broke his crank and found out later that it was cast.

Yah I remember Sal saying he broke his crank and found out it was cast. Don't remember reading about anyone else doing it... that's why I asked about it to see if I was just lucky. My friends joke at me saying I could break a steel ball, probably true .

I am sure the crank is forged steel though. Even asked the machine shop about it just in case I was delusional.

As HP/TQ goes I don't know. Spun the rod bearing before I could dyno with my current combination. Dynoed @ 600ish at the wheels with the old Eaton and a 75 shot. Have sprayed 150 on the street for "testing"... maybe that wasn't a good idea .

I have a forged crank out of a truck that spun a bearing. It needs one journal cut but is otherwise fine. You can have it, just pay the shipping, if you are interested.

Wow Sal! That's very nice of you. I think I'll just have to take you up on that . Much appreciated. Thanks! If you weren't already the person I trusted to tune my truck I'd have to consider switching .

No problem on the crank. When I broke my cast one, a fellow member here stepped up and gave me a spare new forged he had which now resides in my current engine. I'm just payin it forward .
