Just received Stan's Harness Bar via FedEx and it is a beaut!!! I went with black powdercoat and the quality of finish and welds are top notch. Check his site on NLOC and follow thread for install to see SVT-KY's pics. GREAT WORK!!!

SVT_KY,

I noticed you said you were spending $600 on harnesses. Which ones are you getting? Sounds pricey!

It is made for the owner who want to install their 5 or 6 point harnesses CORRECTLY.And if you do not have a cage then this is the only way to do it.It is not legal to drill an hole in the floor and mount your shoulder harness nor is it legal to drill a hole in the back of the cab and mount it.There are fairly specific heights that you have to be at.Stan

From the Simpson catalog:

Many sanctioning bodies will not even allow this much downward tilt to the belts. The reason for having them flat is to minimize stretching -- the less belt is used, the less stretch.

I am concerned about the inability to mount the stock belts also. Can't a longer bolt just be used so that the stock belt mounts right where it has all along, i.e., that the harness bar plates slip between the upper belt mount and the truck?

The problem is that it is a bolt on the cab end and the 'bolt' is captive in the adjuster.the harness bar was really not designed to have the seat belts reinstalled.and used.Since it only takes a few minutes to R&R.What SVT KY did will work and as long as there are no sharp edges it SHOULD be okBut the problem with that is is that you lose the ablity to adjust the height of the should strap.STan

Using camlock 5-point belts for a trip to the grocery store is just out of the question. In addition to being a PITA, it would be geeky.

With my suspension mods, I have made the damn thing user-unfriendly enough as it is. This would be the last straw.

Anyone have any ideas other than KY's mounting system (no offense, KY)?

None taken, Tim ...

I thought about taking the cab apart to see if the bolt
could be lengthened, but gave up because I thought the
angular momentum would be too much for the small dia. bolt.

I think the "collar" that let's the belt rotate is a must in any
design. I was in a hurry and just needed the belts back in.

Some sort of "rigging" could be welded on to the plate and
bar to make it work better, I think.

And that's not including the HANS device or Hutchens.

I have a cage and harness, but use my reg belt when I am not racing and everything is always there ready to go.

I guess I need to look at Cliff's pics. I have had my harness bar installed for over a year. I use my stock Ford belts every day and the harness at the track. The bar is installed along WITH the stock belts. I have never had a problem with this set-up. The stock belts work exactly like they do in a truck without a harness bar!
