MY 1/8 times with slicks SUCK -help-
Ok first of all, I admit I SUCK at drag racing. My times with my
mods make me embarrased. But I still want to post them here to
try and get some constructive advice. Last night the second time
I've ever been to a track and first time with any mods on this L.
The track had some problems, such as a guy hitting the wall right
before I went and me sliding all over the kitty litter they used
after. 10.5 were practicing for tonight.(Those things are freakin fast!) but alot of them, left fluid.
Track conditions low 70's and humidity around 60%
Here are my 1/8 numbers
reaction -----.5970-------1.1370------- .6853-------.7341-------.9220

Here's what I did, getting used to the line lock, drive though the water box, heat tires up at around 2500-3000 rpm till I see some smoke(5-10 seconds), release line lock and coast 20 feet. No dry hop. Stage& power brake (tried 1000-1400 rpm) go at last yellow, I floored it. Friends watching me said I spun a little off the line, but not alot. One time I spun though second.
Am I not heating up the hoosiers enough? They are 28X10.5 on 16X10 rims. Pressure was between 13-12 psi. Am I not leaving at high enough rpms? I would cool off about 20min inbetween runs with electric fan. Temp was really low on the stock gauge, but climbed to normal by the time I reached the water box, even after shutting car off every time I moved up in the line.
I thought I would break the 8.0's but never did. 1fst54 has almost the same mods and got a 7.99 on Nittos! He even beat a z06 with aftermarket intake plentum, full exhaust and nittos!
I will try to go back tonight. I am taking off the spare tire and hitch, and I think the tailgate. Also I had a full tank of gas (oops).
Any HELPFUL suggestions? I know if I get my 60ft times down it will be alot better.
Mods as follows hp/tq 444.1/533.3
With those 60 foot times you must be spinning...
You are not competing for big money. If people are sliding into wall, there is fluid on the track along with kitty liter you should probably go home early. A wrecked truck can cost thousands and thousands of dollars.

I noticed that you mentoned driving through the water box. Your front tread tires retain water and let it drip down in the path that your rear tires need to get traction.
Drive around the water box and then back into it.

This is a 1/8 mile track in Immokalee

They used a sweeper to clean the kitty litter, but they didn't use a blower the last time I went. They had to use a sweeper and blower about 3 times in 2 hours. They also walked the track before the sweeper, but I was first in line after the last car already lined up. Can you just not run? I wanted the 7's too bad.
Ok I'll try higher pressure too. I have screws on the rims to keep the slicks from spinning.

I recently got a set of Hoosiers and have been trying 16.5psi. Went out for 1st time last night since running 13.43 @103 stock.

How long did u heat them up for?
And what rpm's were u getting to while doing it???
I have the JL 58" bars and they are great! I had the front welded.
BTW the line lock is definitley worth the money IMOP

Drop your fuel level to half tank, that will reduce your weight by almost 100 lbs which should be good for close to a 1/10th off of your ET. IMHO you would have been in the 7's if you wouldn't have had a full tank of fuel. 100 lbs makes a difference.
As for launching, man that just takes practice and there are so many variables that come in to play it's not even funny, so focus on the ones that you can control and practice....practice....practice. One thing I have found is that you can't just stab the throttle, you have to roll into it.
Hope you get some 1.7's or better.
