Lightning "hooting" between 2000-2400 RPM??

Hey All:

I test drove a Lightning this week. Once it was warmed up, it would "hoot" between 2000 and 2400 RPMs. It sounds like it is coming from the glove box.

It did it both while driving, and if I parked the truck and revved it to 2100 RPMs.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Steve

Probably a loose heat shield or something thats vibrating and giving off a strange sound at certain rpms.

Heat shield does 'sound' likely but maybe an exhaust leak from the right bank?

Did you look in the glove box?

Back 10 years ago I had a 4.6L t-bird. It did just about like you are describing. Turned out to be a faulty idle air valve. I cleaned it perfectly and it did'nt help. Replaced it and that did the trick.

This is an old post, but I thought I would post the solution in case anyone searched.

It turned out that the orifice in the heater hose has dislodged from its clamp. The dealer put on a new heater hose and voila, fixed.

I'm really glad you posted this because I've had that exact problem since a week after I had bought my L brand new last spring. I've been gone too much and otherwise been too lazy to check it out so I just learned to live with the slight "hooting whistle" at those RPM's. I'm gonna try a new heater hose when I get home.
