Yes the Air Force 1 is an open element filter, and one of the best as for as I am concerned. I ran one on my Lightning and loved the performance it created in conjunction with the other mods I had.

yes its open ended and 15 inches so it reaches all the way to the fender opening. It comes with a hard rubber boot to connect the filter end to the fender.

I enclosed my AFO to keep under hood air out.

Is a "cold air intake" an "open filter?"

Think about that question for a moment.

If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody around

If a man speaks out loud in the woods, and a woman isn't around to tell him he is wrong, is he?

YES GRASSHOPPER...., you not catch on yet...

if the open filter has an open end and ...said open end attaches to a cold air source, fender, then it is deemed Cold Air Induction by its maker.......so, that frigid air from the open end makes all the difference in the world when you compare it to a plain ole open filter with no open end which only gets air from blazing hot under hood......

Excuse me for a second . . . need to do something . . .

Please explain -- or better yet, prove -- why a fluid with multiple entry paths would prefer the 2" open disc at the end of the filter to the exact same material -- of which there is about 20 times more -- around the outside of cylinder the filter. Especially when the fluid is less dense (underhood heat) around the cylinder, and therefore easier to draw through. And the path of least resistance is the section of the filter closest to the base.

The magic of marketing. Sigh.

the open end provides a desirable air flow pattern that denser air forces out the hot air as it moves throught the filter with the small ram affect.
Tim, on the surface your statement is logical in theory...aka... same material, larger surface area exposed to heat....CR vs airflow is what is important, increase in CR will momentarily increase vacuum inside the filter since the ratio of the temp/volumes being compared has changed. Effective vacuum after TDC - V1/V2.
V1 = chamber volume.
V2 = intake port, manifold leg, plenum, ram air through the filter.

this simple equation shows compression vs airflow improvement with an open ended filter.

check the link that supports my findings ........Marketing hype my ars !!!
