And just for the record my trap speeds were usually right at the 109.5mph mark. This last time out I played a few "tricks" to help the top speed. ETs were about the same-to-slightly better but the speeds were up both on my ET streets and on the new 305-55s (mostly engine room air flow improvements I think helped top speed)

What kind of trap speeds where the 6lb guys running generally?

they'd pull me by a truck length then the rest of the run I'd pull them

So I guess that the reason why this happens is that they have more torque than you at lower rpm's. Why you had better trap speed and pass them before the line, beats me

Let me know if you have a theory on that one.

I went from 13.003 @ 106 in the cold w/ a 4lb lower. I then added 6# lower, and FTVB and went 12.66 @ 109 in the cold. I then added traction bars, loop, and removed all the weight that I could... still ran 12.66, but this was in the summer heat at Bristol Dragway which is also 3400' about sea level. Here at home we are not nearly that high. New times coming in the next few weeks.

So in your case the 6LBer definitely had the advantage in ET's and MPH.

That cool. Anyone else with similar or better results?

This is what I have been waiting to hear... I am only thinking about going to a 6 because I have lost boost with the headers and exhaust system... So I figure I can run a # 6 safely, that is with a good tune......

Blown.....
It is wise to open up your exhaust with the extra boost you will be using. If your going to run a 6lber then I would ensure you have a heat exchanger and even consider a small 50-75 dry shot of NOS to keep that air charge cooled. And nothing beats a GOOD dyno tune either.

I think this slip shows my experience's / view point perfectly. This was the closest race I've ever had. (This was pre ported blower and convertor for me) He a 6# lower,, exact same size tires, AND headers. (I don't know about his cats?)

Keep in mind here that this was the *closest* one I've ever had. Most other 6# guys I pull MORE than I did on this one.

I distinctly remember the whole race too. Off the line he *pulled me* by 1-to-1.25 truck lengths. I'm not talking about the launch here. I mean he clearly pulled away under power once we were moving. Then at the top of first I was regaining. 1-2 shift and I jumped a bit more looking at his back tire. 2nd gear I pulled almost dead even. 2-3 shift and I was DEAD EVEN. We were litterally looking at each other and kinda smiling shrugging our shoulders. We held dead even for a bit then I started to pull ahead as the rpms got up around 4800ish and crossed the line looking at his front tire.

Fowl, I honestly believe it's because of the efficiency rpm of an eaton. In the 1/4 mile your at elevated rpms MOST of the time. Off the line your down low in rpms so the eaton is in it's peak efficiency quicker w/a 6#.

My solution to having the best of both worlds was to stick with the 4# lower and get a convertor. And honestly I think my truck has a 12.3 or 12.2 in it. It's just gonna take a sticky track and a working line lock. :o I would have had a 12.3 for sure 3 weeks ago if I was able to get a good burn out. I did'nt want to fry my brakes so I only did a so-so burnout and launch.
