Loss of boost

I also posted my dyno gains long ago from my port job and it did just as good as an apten. Alot of that had to do with getting an excellent dyno tune. If your blower goes on my truck and makes "10psi" max, then we have a problem, and i'll make it right.

LOL.........I knew your gain was high, I thouht it was a gabillion, christ...I had no idea it hit a gazillion. You da man Rob.
Seriously though. When I refered to the Apten research...I was talking more about the porting they experimented with before they started releasing them.
My apten happened to perform very well...around a 40 H.P. gain and about 2-3lbs of boost if I remember right. My first trip to the track after getting the Apten on gained me around 2 tenths...but then I know how to drive these trucks at the track. You and Gator have whats called a learning curve....
. It is tough to drive while your peaking...LOL.
Anyway.....due to my larger than normal gains, I received a few emails asking if my porting was different than someone elses...LMAO...***** I don't know if it was or not. I just bolted it on and it worked. Because of these emails I realized that there seems to be some significant differences in gains from one blower to the next...even if your comparing the same port company.
My point is this.....I don't find fault in the person doing the porting if the majority of his work turns out good. Having one bad port job, out of many good ones does not mean the company doing the porting sux.
In this one case....it does appear that the blower is not performing properly. Hell, maybe it's bad rotor packs...who knows. But I can tell you that he has checked and rechecked all the outside influence factors...and I believe he is going to check it again to be sure. Wes is a stand up fellow in my book. He is going to make it right, if it is the blower. That's what makes it all good.

Hey Scott maybe you just got a Friday truck. Have you emailed Ford yet?

Hey Adam,
Next time we see him at the track....we need to smack him around some...J/K.
The funny thing is we also read this same post several months ago too....
Bobby left the gate open again and Scott got off his leash
I did a little research on some old posts and found this. this was right after the blower went back on his truck back in march.
i dont think i had this problem before... but now I think about it i might have i dunno... never really looked at my boost guage that much.... i know before the port i was about 11 and now when it does actually work... im still at 11-12....
well good news and bad news...
bad news is im imbarrased.... good news is i got it fixed... it was the pink vacum hose was crimped up too far into the boost bypass elbow... so it couldnt vacume...
whoohoooo, seeing like 15 on boost guage now!!!
ok 15 psi then.....10psi now.
This futher makes me beleive the problem is not with the port job. i'm not looking for a way out by no means. Me and scott have already talked and come up with a fix if it is the port work. can anyone explain how a port job worked ok then and then all the sudden has a "loss of boost".........i would think that maybe the accuator or something with the vacuum hoses could be a miss. and as far as the truck not picking up any power (2hp) from all those mods, bad port or not......that makes no sense. Fact is, he made good boost back in march(after he got the accuator working correctly)....So what if he didn't make 400rwhp then. he should of broke the 400 mark this time, with ALL THE ADDITIONAL MODS!!!!!.. Its not like the port job is taking power away with every new mod.

Im no expert on the art of porting blowers but on scotts blower the large. The angle of it look pretty sharp as the apten port looks like a smooth contour.... Like i said im no expert. Maybe its the pic but i dont think if the edges are that sharp and not rolled like the apten it could cause some tourbulance and boost loss like some one else said.
i see what you mean by looking at the pics, but look at robs pic. His hole is huge! He didnt lose any power or BOOST!! I offered to report robs blower along time ago, when i started porting them the current way, he refused. The fact is scotts is done the same way as the rest of my port jobs,(besides rob). Nobody lost boost. Could it possibly be anything else...????????
BTW: i dont know about everybody else but the weather here in the south can change overnight. today my truck may have made 14 to 15 psi at 90mph. Last week it made 17psi at 90mph just because of the weather change. it was a cold spell. anyways sorry for the long post.

Yea i see how robs is HUGE and he says it works. Like i said im no expert on the porting itself just learning here. Maybe its just the pics....
But i think scotts truck needs to be gone over from the headlight bulbs to the air pressure....

The plot thickens. We may have to hurt you Scott
.He did just add all those mods. It does stand to reason that he may have knocked the vacuum line loose or something. I'll pass this info on to the fellow that is trying to help him.
Rocks
well i do remember having problems right after I got this port job and found out my boost bypass was installed incorrectly when I bought the truck.... I fixed that and did notice more boost thats a fact... but that was before I have an autometer gauge... shortly after that, almost immediatly I got an Autometer phantom gauge... i had a tri pod, but there was no boost in there...
anyway, since that day.. I have NEVER seen even "12" on my autometer.... but my stock boost gauge will sometimes go past the 10.... sometimes it looks like it might read 15+ but i dont really know how to read it after its past 10... i was just assuming at the time that since its way past 10 and i had added the port that I was probably around 15...
i dont want people to get the idea that Im blaiming Wes. I think Wes has done a great job... like I said before, Iv done some searching and have not found even ONE person complain about his ports except me... so that leads me to think it was something else this whole time and not his port.... but it seems as though there is only so many little things to eliminate.... if it ends up being my port job is bad and wes can fix it, great... that would make my day... but if its unfixable, i dont expect him to give me another blower or anything... he is not in this as a business.... im sorry to drag this whole situation out for so long... i dont wanna put a bad label on Wes... he is A++ in my book as well as just about everyone else who has dealt with him...
im gonna have a local lightning buddy to a full exam on the truck soon (he knows alot more than I do) and HOPEFULLY its something small and stupid....
btw, this is just a guess, but when I did the port job, I didnt buy new gaskets... the old ones looked really good and just put them back on... could that possibly be a problem?? maybe a leak or something

i went out playing around yesterday and was trying to totally forget about HP #s and Boost #s... just get a "feel" for it...
to be totally honest... i dont think it feels much different at all from the day I got the truck. I can "feel" the ftvb and I can "hear" the exhaust... but other than that its not a whole lot different.
I remember when I got the truck it had a 4lb and chip I took it to dyno and track... It pulled 388hp and 8.4 (f1s)in 1/8 mile... now after a TON of mods, Im only at 399hp and my best 1/8 is 8.2 (slicks).... although I havent had much practice at the track....
