Loss of boost

It's still conjecture on my part, however from my research and understanding, the shape and size of apeture re-porting is critical and has very little tolerance for error.

This is absolutely correct. It's the single biggest reason for choosing carefully, when getting your blower ported.
When the Apten porting first showed up, our local tuner was very sceptical about the results. He had been involved in a blower porting attempt a few years before this. It didn't work well...LOL.
He now gets his ported blowers through one of the more well known sources.
I know that Apten went through a crap-load of blowers before they hit a design that worked properly.
It's more about where you cut than how much you cut.

OMG, OMG, OMG......I really hope that i did screw up this port job just to put an end to this. Scott send me the blower, i'll put it on my truck, and see how it performs. If i can make any changes i will. If its uncorrectable i will send you my blower case with your guts or mine which ever you choose. My truck sees 14-16psi depending on the weather with a 4lb lower and a with a 2.8 upper, and a 12"filter. This is based on an autometer boost gauge that is hooked up correctly. My truck also went a 7.9 at 88 mph in the 1/8 last week with less mods than you. so i KNOW my blower does not have an issue. I also posted my dyno gains long ago from my port job and it did just as good as an apten. Alot of that had to do with getting an excellent dyno tune. If your blower goes on my truck and makes "10psi" max, then we have a problem, and i'll make it right. If not, good luck on getting it straightened out, because you have other problems with the truck or tune. I'll be waiting for your reply or email scott. thanks wes
BTW: i'm not gonna put my foot in my mouth and critisize some peoples opinions just yet because it may very well be my fault , but it really amazes me how some people can diagnose the problem from there computer desk.

here is an idea, Check the boost bypass valve. then put the stock pulleys back on and see what the boost is there. then you have something to compare to. OR swap blowers with someone local.
this is scotts actual blower above. I take pics of almost every port job. and here is the apten port job below. this isn't a stab at anyone, its just to let the readers know that Scotts port job isn't as "big" or unporportined as people may think.
wes, email me at bolt00@hotmail.com
i dont wanna stir anything up and make people think you do bad ports... i was 100% happy with the work... u can ask anyone around I have been defending you til the end.... check all my old posts... i have tried to rule out everything else, but cant find anything else wrong....
iv done searched and cant find ONE person that was complained about the WASP... but like rocks said.... there can always been 1 bad seed...
thanks for trying to make it right, i would at least like to send it to you to look at... i can look at it, but that doesnt mean a thing to me... i dont know much about it....

i have already emailed you scott, before i made this post. I'm in no way irritated with you, sorry if my posts just came across that way. I was just a little aggravated at other peoples posts that have it figured out, and don't even know the facts. Its easy to point fingers, but not so easy to solve a problem. I will help you in anyway i can, If its my fault, i'll pay shipping and fix it, or send you mine. you can read my email and get back with me. Thanks wes
well i would be more than happy to pay for all shipping charges and everything if you are able to "fix" the port....
give me a little bit though, its a daily driver... gonna see if I can borrow another blower while this is off....if i cant get my hands on one... gonna be hard to get this to you... i cant really be a week or so without a truck

Scott has already checked his boost by-pass.
Your second suggestion is a darned good idea.......Scott...maybe you could see if Bobby will swap blowers with you to see what is what.
Wes.....I really didn't notice anyone taking shots at you....as a matter of fact, in my earlier post to Scott, I suggested he give you a chance to respond to the email he sent you this morning.
I can understand where the garded posture you have comes from. Hell...I probably contributed to it in a thread several months ago, when this topic first arose.
I made darn sure that I didn't say anything negative about you or your work on this thread.
Just soes you'll know....Scott is a member of the Talon club and he lives in the same area as myself. I have not personally seen his blower....but a friend of mine has tried to help him resolve all of the possibilities.
You have apparently put some good port jobs out there. Anyone can have an occasional problem. The fact that you have already offered to make it right, speaks well for you.

thanks again wes for trying to help... my buddy is gonna totally check out my truck one day soon... if he cant find anything still... then ill send it to ya... ill keep in touch via email
Wes is God, and I picked up a GAZILLION HP with my WASP
I think EVERYONE out there with ANYONES port job is
OR BETTER learn that this Mod CHANGES the characteristics
of our Set Up, and SOMETIMES you have to adjust for that difference.
"But that DOES NOT explain your low Boost Numbers." ???
Personally I DON'T THINK the WASP has anything to do with
your problems, and although Apten may have changed their design A FEW TIMES over the years, they still claimed BIG #
improvement ON ALL THEIR DESIGNS ALONG THE WAY,
so I do not blame the early designs of APTEN "OR WASP" for
that matter, on lost Boost (or power for that matter).
AND EVEN IF A PORT DOESN'T SHOW MASSIVE DYNO RESULTS (BEFORE + AFTER), IMO it DOES make a world of difference on throttle response and DEF gives me more boost "faster".
I hope to prove next week I can run faster with 2lbs less Boost
to prove that theory. (The Wasp will make up the diff, AND THEN SOME.
And guess what ? Gator picked up over 40/20 with his NEW STYLE APTEN on a very equally controlled before and after Dyno,
Then got Dyno tuned with a new SCT to utilize that extra power,
upgraded pumps, and I think injectors too ??? "Yet ran slower next time out", and yes for the record ""so did I that day"" with my Wasp. Did I give up on it, HELLZ NO, I know my truck is setup for Cold weather Racing (not hot), AMOF the next time out
I cut (2) 1.6's, ran (2) 11's, and had great MPH's of 112.98 MPH and 113.1 MPH.
For Stock Exhaust, Suspension, and Cooling System,
I AM NOT COMPLAINING.
I have the Mother of WASP port jobs and I can honestly say I have 10+ lbs of boost at 1/4 throttle, and an easy 15-17 at WOT My truck responds awesome, and pulls like a Mo Fo the entire way
EVEN WITH A HUGE WASP PORT

Scott, you amaze me. Hang loose for a bit and give Wes a chance to get in touch with you.
I think I'll save some band width for Steve and Doug.
Everyone...this blower has not performed properly from the first day Scott got it back and put it on his truck. There is no need in all the usual questions about butterfly valves, belt slipping...bent gizmoes..or fuel filters.
The blower porting on this ONE blower is not doing the trick. We already know in advance that everyone elses was the best in the world and gave them 8 gabbillion H.P.

4lb
2.8 upper
WASP ported blower
power plenum
idler (prevents slippage)
so with that stuff, most people are seeing anywhere from 13-16 from what Iv read... well guess what Im seeing... 10-11lbs boost.
And in return, thats why I am not getting the power I was hoping for. I dont see any reason why Im not seeing 420hp, but instead... only 399....
a few people have told me its the port job is screwed up... could be the "style" because its not the proven Apten... or could just be a bad batch... so I have contacted Wes to see if there is anyway of eliminating that option... gonna see if he will switch me out another SC or maybe try and report this one or something....
but if that is not the problem.... what else can I look for that would cause low boost???

OK, forget looking at the boost gauge, how does seat of the pants feel. Do you feel any major difference in performance, example.........lots of wheel spin and midrange pull?
