efan thoughts...

...anyone have any experience with the setup I plan to create/install this weekend....

Going to use 2 14in Hayden Electric fans. One will be on all the time, the other will be hooked up to an adjustable temperature control module that will kick it on at the set temp...thinking 170 or 180 I'll have it kick on.

Any suggestions? Also where should I tap into for an ignition power source?

see my thread.

It gives you the wiring kit to run 1 or 2 fans...

However, for your application, you will need 2 seperate temp switches...
I can picture the wiring and it wouldn't be hard, but to put it into words would be quite difficult.

Basically run 2 seperate wiring kits.

However, I think you'd do better to have one big fan. and then if you want more cooling, place a small fan or 2 on the heat exchanger.

Why 2 wiring kits? I figure one can run non stop and the other can run only at certain temps....

you don't want it to run at all the time.

Reason being is that the engine will never reach normal operating temp.
The computer will be running VERY VERY rich, until normal temp is reached. not liike the old days where you could pull the thermostat and your car would run cooler and faster,
if it isn't up to spec temp the PCM changes A/F ratio and retards the timing ALOT.

regardless if you ahve a chip or not.

I understand what your saying, I've tuned numerous LS1's and they run similarly. I was figuring that one fan would not provide enough airflow to keep the engine from getting up to temp. But your correct, I should wire it up so neither kick in allowing the engine to get up to temp faster. Thanks for the input.

my fans kick on right around the same temp as the thermostate opens.

I started the truck and let the engine warm up ad felt the upper hose to the radiator, I could tell when the thermostat opened and water started flowing.
I was reaching down to adjust the temp on the fans and they kicked on. right where I wanted them

Do you know how much cfm the aftermarket efan's are rated at or how much the factory one is rated at? Reason I ask is that each 14in fan I'll be running produces 1250cfm for a total of 2500cfm thus knowing the factory flow and aftermarket setups I'll be able to gauge how I want them to run.

I would like to say that my flexalite fans that i had on my 97 were rated at 3500 cfm. they did a real good job at keeping the truck running cool, with no problems at all.
