Are you filling up with the truck running? That could be your problem. You aren't supposed to do that.

The fuel gauge will not read the addition fuel until the truck is shut off and restarted. Iam almost willing to bet, thats its a federal law that all vehicles should be shut off when refueling.
This is a common issue with self-serve stations.
Besides the possible explosion from the fumes, why would anyone fuel a vehicle thats running?

Well if the truck is shut off and restarted and still refuses to give a reading of the addition fuel, then you must have the float sticking. Don't know of an easy fix without dropping the tank. Don't know what could be hitting the float/sending unit........sounds like a bad unit , maybe

How much fuel is in the tank BEFORE you fuel? I don’t remember exactly but if you are only adding about a ¼ tank of fuel it will not register right away on the gauge.

I believe that if you fill up with less than 8 gallons. The fuel gauge does not read full immediately upon startup, but will rise to full over a period of time. If you fill up with more than 8 gallons, then the fuel gauge will read full when started.

This is what I have experienced with my 2002 Lightning.

I normally stop between a 1/4 and when the light comes on at almost empty,..kind of interesting we had a story here in fla about shell having a problem where some peoples fuel gauge quit working after a fill at their pumps but supposedly was fixed months ago now and i only stopped at shell once a while back, usually get the 93 amoco.

count my blessings and wait it out and see, been real lucky and had none of the typical problems some of you have.

SVTJEDI,
I have never heard of anyone else having this problem until I read this post. It happened to me during a two month period three times. The truck was turned off and each time I filled over half the tank. Turn the truck back on...no register...turn it off and back on again...then it registers. Was as confused as you are. No problems since though. Wierd
