the tool is the easiest way to get it out.....but, i couldn't find mine one time so i used 4 long and skinny nails. I just stuck one in each hole and pushed to the right or left (can't remember) and pulled out on the radio...helpful hint...do one side at a time and have someone pull out on the radio while you prise on it. Hope this helps.

If you go to most major auto chain store, you can pick up the correct tools for about $6 -$9 bucks. There is not much to them - tapered point, notch cut close to the point, 'finger pull' ring on the other end. All that they do is collapse a plate spring in each location that holds the radio into the dash housing. You could probably do the same thing with a coat hanger stuck in each hole. The risk if scarring up the radio and dash may be higher though - your call.

Just bend a wire coat hanger. Cut off two lengths, bend to U-shaped pieces, press them in the holes and pull.
