Power Steering Gone, Pls Help!

Well i guess after 30,xxx miles with no problmes... sometihng was bound to happen. Anyway I just got back from a 1200mile trip. One my way out to base real quick, heard the PS pump screaming. Anyway pulled over and heres what I found.

Seems as if the spline on that arm poped out of the steering module. Thats definetly wheres its leaking from. Now, theres a chance the resouviour could have been at the low mark for a while. Apparently, my buddy told me a month ago it was low... funny dont remember him telling me that. Anyway, could having low fluid cause this?

To add to it, after limping the truck home 10miles, the pump had a little smoke around it and some smoke comming out of the resoviour.

Arhhhh what a day Any help would be greatly appriciated, need to get to base tommorow somehow.

Thanks,
Jon

Pitman arm shaft seal is bad.pretty easy fix.Just remove the nut its 1-5/16 nut and get a pitman arm puller remove the arm and dig the snap ring out and dig the seals[2] coat the new seals in vaseline and drive back up into the housing and reinstall snap ring then reinstall the pitman arm [there are four teeth missing] so the pitman arm will only fit on one way correctly. Then put more fluid in the pump and start it up then you are good to go.BUT since the pump was smoking plan on the pump atleast making noise.STan

Great thanks for the help. Few questions... will I be able to find the pittman arm puller and seals at a pep boys or autozone. Or is this straight from the dealership.

Think I fried the pump?

Oh and what would you think the actual name of those two seals are? Just so I know what to ask for.

Thanks again

Dig through your toolbox until you find a socket with an outside diameter that matches the seal, a little smaller would be even better. Use that to drive the seals into place, just make sure that you drive it in straight (don't let it get over at to severe of an angle. In case your PS is fried, we found that NAPA in our area (So Cal) had the best price - I had to replace mine this last Jan.
