I agree with you Tim, the last part of my post was a cheap shot and not
necessary. I lost my composure for a minute. I will edit the post.

Apologies,
The Ghead

I actually said "out of hand," meaning out of control, as in a rant -- not "out of line," meaning inappropriate. Sorry for not choosing a sufficiently different phrase (especially after stating that I agreed with GHead).

I support your right -- and Master's right -- to complain of poor products or service. And I'm happy that these boards provide a forum for such information. Often when a consumer gets screwed , the only remedy at his disposal is to publicly complain.

It is disappointing that JLP is the subject, but the truth is the truth.

GHead -- you are a gentleman indeed. And so is Sal. You each deserve a pass in my book.

I don't feel my post was any kind of "cheap shot"?? I didn't say anything about the JLP parts other than that I couldn't help him with his issues. It's obvious he isn't going to be using that air kit, and since he bought it in the first place that tells me he wants one, so I just offered up some specs on ours as an alternative.

Master of Pain has it out for JLP it looks like to me.

I was talking about the JLP valve bodies one night and he just started to put it down. It got out of hand.

I have got a air box and it works fine. It fits fine just a little hard to put on. It did not go in like the paper work said.

I still don't see how the airbox and tube being used has any relevance here. It's not a mod that should see any wear and tear, other than the filter getting dirty. I could understand if the complaints here were based on dings and dents or scratches, but the gripe is with the inherent manufactured quality of the unit. Even people who have purchased this product brand new from the vendor have complaints.

I have a JLP Box, and Love it, and as far as I'm concerned
NOTHING can touch it in the Looks Department, and I think it's
a dam nice piece. Ya mine had some space showing between Welds, (and I left it just that way).
Mine also looks as good today as the day I installed it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, BUT the Maf is AFTER the Box,
so who gives a rats *** if any air got in around the weld of the inlet/outlet connections.
The air still HAS TO go through the Maf

Hmm, MAF sealed quite correctly to Box

Someone please show me where this UN METERED air
is coming in from ???

I guess some people are not smart enough to figure out that you need to transfer the foam gasket from the stock airbox over to the JL unit.
Also I have NO gaps on the inside of my box. The unit fits nicley in the stock location and the provisions in the box keep it from rattiling around or moving.
On a side note it seems every time I run into of Sal's customers it constant JL bashing and it makes me sick!!
Im sure Sal has great service and great parts but the stink I smell from his customers is enough to keep me away even if JL does me wrong.

I have both the Tunder tube and box, and am pleased with them.
I wiil agree that the inside of the tube needed some smoothing, easy fix called sandpaper. and the tube fittings are a little tougher to get in than stock, since it's fiberglass you can't crank the clamps down like on meatl but if you've instaled seals properly theres no need to. Oh well, to each thier own.. Happy bitching

I have the JLP box and I am happy with it.
Instead of fussing with the foam gasket, I used a thin layer of silicone between the box and MAF. The box itself with the screen mesh cover looks bass-a$$.

My JLP box had the same problem. Some of you guys with his box might want to look inside it where the filter opening meets the inside of the box. There was a 2mm open gap nearly all the way around mine minus the spot welds. I didn't even notice it till someone else pointed it out. There was a good bit of sand and road debris that got sucked up by the ram tube laying under the filter so I'm sure some was ingested through the 2mm gap and straight into the engine. I immediately took the whole setup off and put my old straight filter back on. Besides, I never gained anything by using the JLP setup anyway.

From: IN,
Concerned I missed these gaps ect.I pulled off the box and tube to ease my mind. The only gap PERIOD on my box is at the bottom air inlet from the scoop. The gap is so small I had to hold it up to light to see it.I'm not worried about the gap from outside before the filter. Also checked at filter connection sealed completely shut.I then pulled the thunder pipe no cracks any where and not so much as the smallest chip.In fact the fiberglass has a glaze on itsealing it .I'm going to the track tonight thought I would check oil in the intake anyways.I think this (my opinion )is the nicest peice I could buy I waited a year deciding on which to buy and DONOT regret it at all! Also was in a large all ford car show w/KR GT500's and won BEST ENGINE my 1st trophy for the engine judged by a local mechanic who works on HIGH end Fords Cyclones ,SHELBY Cobras ect. Pretty proud of that one from this guy.JLP awesome product in my eyes no defects on mine at all!But mine was brand new and the oil doesn'tseem to be affecting it.

My comment is solely about the "Thunder Pipe" or any of its 'twins'(REM, etc). I havn't seen JLP's pipe but I will assume it's similar to other fiberglass intake pipes.

I bought and installed one. I pulled it off after it had been on for a few months to check for oil in the th/body. As I was re-installing it, I noticed that two of the three rubber grommets were cut or torn in the 'grooved' area where they fit in the holes in the pipe. Now there's some unfiltered and unmetered air getting into my engine..............and maybe yours.

The vender sent me two free sets of grommets(made in Taiwan BTW) but I never re-installed the pipe. I guess the cuts were caused by the torquing of the engine vs. the stiffened pipe ?
