Since mine is an 02, I already have the 2nd one installed stock.

The reasons I like the Expy unit are:

(insert Letterman top ten background music here)

5) I like my truck to be distinctive and different.

4) I like the 'balance' that the longer OH gives the interior with the Expy floor console.

3) Nobody else on my block has one.

2) I have plans for the area where the stock AC controls are and the Expy has room to relocate them.

1) I spent $32 for it on eBay and I can't use it on my desk!

This has been an informative thead, so thanks to those who have contributed relevant information.

I would be interested in doing this as well, and have a few questions for someone who has actually done the swap that I have not seen addressed yet:

1. Are the AC controls the same as the ones in the L dash, or are you relocating the stock controls? I doubt its too hard to relocate the stock controls, but if it is, say so...

2. Is there a wiring harness extension from the Expedition that can be used to lengthen the wiring, or are you forced to butcher the original harness in the truck? (Obviously, I would prefer to return the truck to stock if necessary, and wouldn't want a bunch of taps or splices in the harness.

3. What is the depth behind the AC controls in the dash? (Would another DIN stereo or EQ chassis fit?)

Thanks,
--Michael

Bringing this thread back from the dead, I bought an overhead console, and will do a THOROUGH write up for anyone wanting to do this. The console I bought is out of a 98 I think. Will keep you informed.

I have my Expy overhead installed with the Lightning computer molded in and the A/C controlls relocated. I'll try and post some pictures later if anyone is interested.
