Lowering Question - Hanger Install
Lowering Question - Hanger Install
Does anyone have any pointers for installing hangers? I've searched and searched for detailed instructions and/or pictures with no luck. There's plenty of documentation for coil springs, but I can't find anything about installing hangers. I'm hoping to tackle this job this weekend. Thanks in advance!
BTW, I have the Eibach 3" drop hangers.

Its a nasty job. You will need an angle grinder to cut the heads off the rivets and a air chisel with a pointed end to drive the remaining stud out of the frame. A big hammer and a prybar also helps. the new hangers bolt up after the removal easily. To change the pinion angle youll need 2 big c clamps to keep the springs together while you change the spring retainer bolt which will need to be longer with the shim. I'm not sure if you need to change shocks but I did. Another headache can be the E brake cable it will rub your tire if you don't re-mount it right. I have a set of instructions from bell tech. if you have a fax # I'll send them to you. with the right tools the job takes about 4 hours your first time.
air chisel = no feeling in hands for hrs. Your neighbors will love you from the ear shattering noise.
Helped do 3 suspension drops and all of them sucked, plus don't plan on doing anything the next day but laying on the coutch recooping.

Some trucks are different, but with mine we had to make a custom braket to attach the ebrake cables.
Also had to relocate the brake cable under the leafs due to it being real tight ontop of the leaf after the 4" drop.
These are the main 2 problems you might encounter that the instructions don't mention. Good Luck

Does anyone have any pics of the pinion angle shims? And maybe some instructions on how to set that up?
Thanks again for everyone's help!!

I agree with buckstop. I did 2" drop hangars on my '99 L. PITA, but worth it. But so much of a PITA, that I went with the Roush setup this time around on my '04. Much easier to just install leaf springs.
you will definitely need an air grinder and air hammer/chisel. GET SOME EAR PROTECTION! Do not underestimate how loud it is. You get used to it and then you don't realize you're causing harm to your ears.
One helpful hint I found _after_ I was almost done ... instead of just grinding off the rivet heads, _cut_ a + pattern in them. This will take a serious die-grinding wheel (or two or three), but it will make grinding the heads off 10x easier, and the subsequent air hammering to get them out will not be so bad either.
Good luck!

I'll try to fax you the instructions this afternoon. I did the 4" drop on my 03 which in order to keep the truck level required a front drop also. On my 04 I just dropped the rear 2" with shackels. I only have 7" ground clearance on the ram air scoop in front and that is low enough. Any lower and speed bumps, uneven ground or even trying to load on a trailer become an issue

I am getting my suspension done right now. I bought a WC 2" drop A-arms(which are beefy but way nicer then stock) and the hanger and shackle kit for the back which allows me to adjust from 2-5". I also took a leaf out of my springs to assist with the lowering a bit . I am guessing close to 4' drop in the back to level out with the front 2." Thats about right correct? I cant wait to see the new stance though. I did not know the hanger is a pain. So did you have to move your e-brake cable around also? If so I want to give the shop an idea where/what to do with it from your guys experiance. There also doing my Bassani exhaust system. Cant wait to see the bill but oh well.
Thanks for the help,Russ.
I had to reroute the e-brake cable and adapt the bracket Belltech supplied. biggest prob was that I didn't anticipate the rub until it was lowered off the jack stands. then I had to re-drop the diff to make adjustments. your e-brake cable, if like mine, ends up being nearly to short. On my new truck I just left front stock and dropped the rear 2 this leaves the rear a little higher but with longer shackles it could be lowered further. I won't do the hangers again
