Intercooler?

Is there supposed to be fluid in the resevoir for the Intercooler? The reason I ask is that when I had my MODS put on the guy told me that I should get fluid for my intercooler. I went immediately to a Ford dealership to ask about the fluid. They told me I did not need fluid and that it was air cooled. So for the last 6 months I thought that. Well, after having my spark plugs changed out and the water pump replaced I noticed while looking at my engine that there was fluid in the resevoir now. My truck was running great for the last 3 days. Today though I noticed that the knocking/pinging noise was back so I looked under the hood and now there is no fluid in the intercooler. Can anyone tell me if there should be? My gut feel is that there is supposed to be fluid there and I have a leak and have been driving around without fluid for months.

YES, there should be coolant/fluid in your intercooler reservoir. That guy at the Ford dealer is a moron.

Hey Jay, I'd have the I.C. pump inspected. If it ran dry it very well may be bad / locked up.

PLEASE don't tell me you have a 99-00 lightning.

If you do then you most likely have a leaky intercooler. and you are going to be pi$$ed.

Not trying to be a smart-a$$, but are you looking at the right reservoir?

I am sure it is the right place for the fluid. The reason it appeared is because I just had the supercharger water pump changed out because it was making a weird noise. So I assume they filled it up after changing the pump. I called them today and I am taking my truck in tomorrow morning. My truck is a 2000. The dealer I took it to is Prestige Ford in Edmond, OK. They guy I talked to today seemed very knowledgeable of what was going on. I feel so dumb for believing the first guy I talked to. I should have known that reservoir was just not for air.

Do you all have any ideas of how much performance I am losing because there is no fluid? It obviously works without it.

It could be the IC pump. However, on the repair order it says supercharger water pump.

Did you talk to Lenny Fly? He is my service writer, and seems to know SVT very well. I have used him for both my fords, and he always shoots me a fair deal. If you want, you can come over to my shop and I can look at it for you.

Does Lenny work at Prestige Ford? I have been talking with Jim Ross and he seems very knowledgeable. Do you have your own shop to repair cars? Can you do warranty work? My truck is with them again today. I am waiting to hear the verdict on what is causing the leak.

Lenny is with Prestige; My shop is behind my house for working on my projects and friends' cars; I don't do warranty work, but I don't charge for work being done either; I work for beer. Let me know if you want to come over sometime. My buddy Kris has a white 03, and mine is dsg 03.
