How to take NICE pictures?
How to take NICE pictures?
i have a decent digital camera... its a Sony DSC-P32 if anyone knows much about them...
anyway, iv taken quite a few pictures of my truck and Im never happy with any of the pictures... there is always shadows or glares or sun too shiny or something...
I see lots of pictures of Ls and other cars for that matter where the pics look great... can someone give me some pointers... should I take picture in shade, in sun? turn on flash, turn off?? what do i do???
thanks
p.s. here are a few I took this morning... they look ok, but not really what I want... see how there are too many shadows and glares... i tried to take this one in shade, but still no luck...

I have a Sony DSC-10 and I have the thing set up for outdoor pics. Usually I have it set on high resolution like 3.1 mp and on sunny days I leave the flash on. The pictures come out like this...
Colors really pop with the flash on sunny days. Have the sun at your back also and look for angles without too much glare. Otherwise, all you need is practice.

The prob's you describe are 10 fold on a Black Truck,
You may have seen my post last weekend, where I gave many examples of pic's I took that day.
Owning a Black L I can tell you it's dam near impossible to get a great pic of mine in the sun. Mine usually come out Blue, or too reflective, or have shades of green, shadows, reflection, and other problems.
I can also tell you from personal experience you will DEF get better pictures in the shade or late afternoon when the sun is going down. (But of course you will not get the best reflections)
AS for flash, I find it better for Motor shots, but not always for Truck shots.
If your lucky, once in a while you get the best of both worlds

In shade or cloudy days you'll get a much deeper, blacker pic

For those times when bright light is bouncing all over the place, I set my camera to "1960's ACID MODE"
Also known as LSD Mode or Hendirx Mode.
If your camera has such a setting your truck would look like this . . .

On a day with a bright sky, I focus on a bright area of the pic, and take whatever exposure time the camera gives me and shift it to manual when taking a pic of the car/truck. It'll darken up the pics slightly, and help reduce the "smokey/cloudy/hazy" look when the pic is too saturated with light.
I prefer not to use the flash, I feel that it gives an artificial look to the pic, but I can see where it has it's advantages. Rob's advice on early/late day pic taking is the best you can do!

I always get better pics when the sun is directly overhead....or late afternoon sometimes is good, but you end up brightening the pics in photoshop usually.
A good tip though, for pics and for shows....... spray some of this is your wheel wells...

A lot of people skip this step...the light colored wheel wells stick out like a sore thumb and take focus away from the nice , otherwise clean truck.
