Downshifting at freeway speeds

I'd like to be able to go WOT at 70 mph without the tranny/ECU combo downshifting into the engine explosion range. Ideally, I'd like to see it never downshift to any gear where the resulting rpm at downshift will be over 4700 or so. I hammered the throttle at 70 mph and watched the tach instantly go right to 5400. Not good.........

Suggestions, please.

Have your tuner set your downshift points to where you want them. This is if you have a chip or programer.

Thank you! I suspected that the points were adjustable in the Predator. I have both a predator and a tuning source, so the problem will be fixed!

Just two FYI's:

1 - Dash RPM tach is not entirely accurate.

2 - 5400 is no where near engine exploding RPMs.

5400 may not be terminal, but at the rate the tach climbs with a 4#, Airaid, single blade and ported blower, I'd rather not find out where the stock block self ventilates just 'cause I kept my foot in it a moment too long while dodging traffic. If it is going to go, I want it to be some place worth while, like at the end of the 1320.......

Your on the right track.........Its that cylinder pressure spikes that are a killer for the stock rods.

Excellent thinking
