Factory Tonneau Cover...

My friend just bought a True Blue 2002 Lightning and it didn't come with the factory tonneau cover. Does anyone know where he can get one for a good deal? He doesn't want the snap type or a hard tonnequ cover just the one that comes on the L from the factory. Thanks.

fordpartsonline has it for $246 (2L3Z.83501A42.BA)
Bad news: they want $80 for shipping

I just got my new L couple of weeks ago and I have the "optional"soft cover. The soft cover is not stock on a L. There are two additional options you can request if the dealer did not already have them on there. The cover and a bed liner.
I ordered a ******* hard cover and would be willing to get rid of the soft one. Like new, where do you all live? LMK if interested.
Russ.

The cover is a factory installed option, the bedliner is dealer installed. Of course a dealer could install the soft cover I guess but as far as the official sticker goes, the soft cover is the only option.

Just FYI, I bought a Sonic Blue L that didn't have the factory soft cover. I had a 2001 that did. The one listed as the "factory" cover at fordpartsonline is NOT the same as the one that came on the truck from the factory. It is of MUCH lower quality and not even close to the same design. I'd go for a good aftermarket one instead of what Ford calls the "factory" cover.

The one that came on the trucks from the factory IS a nice cover and I wish I could get my hands on another one too.

How do you KNOW that the fordpartsonline tonneau is NOT the same? They INSIST that it is.

OK, now I'm confused. I called SVT and they said the part number for the factory replacement cover (no rails) is XL3Z.H3501A42.AAA. He said there was not a number for the whole kit. Any Ford guys out there who know what the difference is between that and 2L3Z.83501A42.BA? A quick GIS listed some sites that "deciphered" ford part numbers, but they weren't in the same format.

even more confusing:
SVT part number is $350 and doesn't include rails
fordpartsonline version is $300 with rails

those are local prices

FWIW, I was recently told by Jim @ JDM that the factory soft covers were no longer available.

they use them and modify them when they do a roll cage, and he was asking me if I knew where to get one.

I was like ??? why not just order one from Ford. he said that the factory option soft tonneau is no longer available, and if you order one, they send you some type of cheesy non original replacment.

coincidentally, mine has been doing the corner peel thing, so I ordered a new one just the other day. The parts guy came out and told me that it had arrived today, so tomorrow I'll go check and see if it is the correct original style or not.

although I just ordered the soft cover, not the complete kit w/ the rails.

later,
chris

From: Colorado,
My 04 came with one and I like it a lot. Was considering getting another one to have when this one is spent.
Excellent quality and with that nice sealing system I expect the bed to continue to stay almost dust free.

The window sticker said it was a $240 option

I hope we can get a factory original replacement.

Was is everyone using as a treatment to keep it staying nice?

I bought this one for 349 direct from the ford dealer. After tax it came out to 379. I wish I knew about this a year ago.

But I got to say That I like this cover more then most of the other soft cover for the Lightnings. I don't like the snap look and some of the other ones flod up on the end. Here is a pic of mine.

Thats looks pretty similar. How would you say the quality compares to a factory model?
Does it close the same way with the fold down lip?
Are all the internal frame parts black?
