Predator Tune = LEAN

Just sharring some info I got today from dynoing my 04 L. The truck has 1,200 miles and the only mods are a JLP intake and a Magnaflow exhaust.

Base Numbers before Predator Tune: 370hp/431tq

Air Fuel was at a steady 13.1 and then dropped to 12.5 near the end. Still alittle on the lean side for my taste.

After 2 baseline runs I then hooked up the Predator and loaded up the Performance Tune. Here are the results from my next 2 runs:

Numbers after Predator tune: 379hp/441tq shutting down at 4.5krpm.

The reason for shutting down early was due to the fact that my Air Fuel had now jumped WAY up to 16.1 - 15.5! I'm not ready to blow this motor up yet! Seeing this I then proceeded to adjust the fuel tables and richen them up by 10% and that didn't change anything at all. So after that I then backed the timing off by 10% and the Air Fuel would still only go down to 14.5 at best and the power was still at 379/441 @ 4.5krpm.

So, what did I learn? The Performance Tune seems to be VERY aggressive and I could definitely see running into pretty bad detonation problems wile running it. I know every truck is different and so mabye someone else wouldn't run into any of these situations, but I certainly did!

Has anyone else out there experienced this problem? I'm guessing I'm going to need to get either a custom tune or just try and mess with the settings myself on the dyno.

Thanks.

everyone had this problem

send it to a tuner for a tune, the stock predator tune is notorious for blowing engines.

Was the Predator designed for Lightnings only or gas F150s?

What type of dyno are you on? That's a LOT of HP for just those mods you have listed.

Glad you were a smart one and took it to the dyno

With two mods and you are seeing over 450 hp is nuts!

must be good air, standard read, and nitrous

Thats got to be a typo. Theres NO WAY he's pushing that much HP. I thing he hit the 4 instead of the 3 on the keyboard. Also, comparing his HP # with TQ #, at 470HP his TQ should be way over 500.

Yeah,
I have an 03 with 4lb and predator and only dyno'd 378 ( I know low hp!). I'm definently jealous! Wish I had an 04!

Sorry! It was a very bad typo :o I can only wish it were actually making that much power

The runs were made on a Dynojet 248 Dyno. They dyno itself isn't known around here for giving higher than average numbers and so I'm pleased with the results. I'm going to be messing with the tune just a bit on my own just to see if I can squeeze just a tad bit more power out of it.

I'll keep everyone posted on what I come across.

Thanks,

he's talking about the performance tune and not the pulley tune. I used the performance tune on my for about 2 weeks. Dyno'd it and came out to be right at what you saw for gains but my a/f was 12.8 : 1. Different trucks react differently i guess

so are you guys freaking that his lightning has like 370hp??

Im not sure if the dyno I went to was accurate (Speed Works in lewisvill Texas) but I got mine dynoed with only a magnaflow exhaust and here are the results....

1st pull: 371.5 hp not sure on the torque, Id have to dig out the sheet

2nd pull: 369.0 hp

3rd pull: 367.0 hp

there were a few other people with lightnings there and they kinda freaked and said that theirs had around 20 less hp when they were stock

by the way, mine is an 03 L now its got 13000 miles on it, it had 5000 when I had it dynoed

370HP at the rear wheels are excellent numbers for a stock L. I would like to see the dyno sheets. That sounds like 03/04 Cobra numbers.
