Mines grounded right to the chasis under the speaker box using a self tapping screw

mine is grounded on the bolt were I took out the black storage box that sits behind the seat, not sure if the 04 had it. Basically any good metal part of the body will work fine. Like denny0328 said self taping screws will work fine.

You mean your amp? Preferably within 18" or less of your amp. As the guys say, find a good metal part of the chassis and use a screw or find a bolt to slip it under. Make sure you sand down any paint where your ground may be touching.

You can avoid tapping a screw or grinding paint away by just removing the bolt from either of your rear seat mount locations and using a round end crimp on connection place the wire over the stud and crank it down.

On my 2000 I used the stud the storage box mounted to, but the 03/04's don't have it so I went to plan be as I suggested above. I run both of these amps on that ground no problem.

Cool

On my '04 L, there is a metal bracket under the passenger seat that holds the jack assembly in place.

A 10mm nut or bolt (I don't remember which) holds this bracket to the chassis and makes a perfect place to connect a ground.

There is a cut already in place in the carpet, so all you need is a piece of coat hanger and some patience to fish the wire under the carpet for a clean look.

Nice shiny metal and not too large of a stud to connect to.

The ground should be as short as possible. I also used the seat bolt.

How is your amp mounted to the floor? You didn't just self tap it into the floor did you?

this is correct. Never run your ground strait back to the battery. As far as I know, 12" from the amp/distribution block/capacitor is the rule of thumb. Like others have said, make sure the connection is in contact with as much bare metal as possible. (scrape any paint/primer away), and don't attach to any bolts/studs that have been coated. I used the bolt from the OE jack bracket since I relocated the bracket. Another **** step I like to perform is to run an extra ground wire from the battery's negative terminal to a good ground under the hood.

I have my amp in the bed, so I basically ran the ground back through the grommet at the front of the bed and attached it to the truck's frame rail.
