Ive ran two GTS vipers, one '98 and a '99 from a 60 roll no less and by 120 had the 99 by one truck length and the 98 by half a truck length. I thought they were faster than that. At the time all I had was a 4# lower, 2# upper,JDM J69 chip, filter, and Densos. Maybe they couldnt drive, dunno. But it was a blast!

Dont get me wrong, I have no illusions who would have won top end if we had kept going. We got out of 'em because a sharp turn was coming up. Wish I had the chance to run them from a dig.

 

Of course the first video everyone gets to see of my truck and I'm getting spanked. I dyno at 421 rwhp and 500 rwtq (right in line with a stock viper). From a stop I give them a good run through about the 1/8th then they stomp me bad.

just fyi on vipers (I work on them too)
1996 GTS - 2002 GTS
1997RT/10-2002 RT/10
in poor running order, with decent driver trap in the 115-118 range stock.
In good running order with headers and exhaust trap 118-121mph.
Heads and cam trap 122-128mph
150 shot of nitrous trap around 130mph

In all its gonna take a lot to outrun a viper (especially from a roll).
From a stop If they are napping at the light, it will take a while for them to catch you. Takes my buddy's 97 till I'm doing about 90mph to catch me (but he is doing about 115 by that point)

Hell don't feel bad Tom, I'm jealous! Wish I'd have gotten to play with them! It was meant more of a testiment to the power of the Viper then weakness of the L. I figured that was somebody from this board ...

 

hey guys cut him some slack.

It took 3 downloads using a dazzle 80 and Pinnacle 8 studio software, to get it to work right.

Took 2 days (after doing it twice the first day, edditing it, adding music) when I went to save it an ANY FORMAT, it said there was an error.
Hours of work down the tube.

 

sup guys, my software is officially screwed up. so we're going to try and do this all over again, and return the software for something new.

as i was reading back through the post, i see alot of you guys think i beat the car. this is not so. the video shows us going at various speeds, and i hang with him.

run 1:
we take off on 3 honks, we stay side by side, then as he's shifting into the next gear, he misses it. (he's only had the car a couple weeks)

run 2:
we go on 3 honks, and he pulls out ahead of me, but i'm still there with him, my front bumper right on top of his rear bumper.

when we did these runs, they were from a 45-50mph rolls up to 100mph.

we ran 4 times, but he kept missing the gears on the other two runs. he's not a very tall guy, and says that the clutch is just too long for him.

for him, worst comes to worst, he could just race me in the 700hp turbo mustang

if it's nice outside this weekend, and my tire doesn't go flat again, we're going to get some dead stop action.

I know this wasn't about the weakness of the lightning at all. We just give up a lot of weight and drag to every car out there. Unfortunately for me I am like the slowest car in the group of people that goes out (although the stealth TT and me are even from a roll). We all get together every thursday (usually between 20 and 100 cars). It can get crazy for sure.

chiz, i drive the loud black harley truck. my name is pat. i went to MC from '87-89 div. 2 national champs.
i wanted to hook our trucks up a few weeks ago...but i blew that heater hose while inhaling that "badazz" honda/acura. by the time we got it filled up with fluid the wife was on the cell phone reeling me in. when i get some free time i'm mounting my e.t. streets up to see how it'll leave with traction.
i'm self employed...i'm a wood flooring contractor and i've been swamped since moving back from mobile.

 

There is a guy in Jackson that has a 97 Viper and also a Red Lightning that is Modded out.

By the way the car suddenly looses traction, and swaps ends, it looks like he blew a tire, but for the life of me I can't figure out which tire blew.

how bout the explanation that ricer gave about loosing to you, lol......i've actually got his explanation on video..... he says "the truck purged his nitrous purposely squirted it at my windshield so i couldn't see."
