Unhappy Magnum power.... WHERE????????

Just got my truck dyno'd after Magnum,JDM fan and Cobra H2O pump install

#'s before Magnum w/heaton were 396.1/504.3

After Magnum was 417.6/508.8 at 14.5 psi(4# lower 2.70 upper)

Am I missing something here?

I watched Panhandle performance datalog the truck inside the vehicle, 14.5 degrees timing and hitting 4.8 on the mass air with a 12.3-11.9 AF ratio from 2800 to 5700

This pull was made yesterday in 101 degree weather in the shop w/ 50 percent humidity(NORTH FL) on a Mustang chassis dyno factoring in a 4900 lb weight w/ driver

Full boost wasn't even coming on till 4500 rpm, it was hanging around 10-11 then jumping to 14-14.5 at end of the pull VS the heaton which gave full 13 from 3000 till end

Although Mark (tuner) did say on a Dynojet the #'s would be signifantly higher like maybe 440/550 depending on conditions, but why only gains of 21.5 hp and 4.5 lb tourqe VS the Heaton on the same mustang dyno?

I'm NOT impressed to say the least and I will be contacting JDM after labor day to discuss my gains.

BTW it does sound really good, but I need more power to match that great sound.

The dynojet vs. Mustang dyno differences shouldn't matter since both your Eaton/MP sessions were on the same dyno. The conditions (heat and humidity) will lower the numbers, but I thought Charles of MP was claiming something like 83 rwhp gains going from an Eaton to an MP?

I would guess maybe you need a tune to take advantage of that MP. Maybe you have a manifold leak? I hear ya, that is not impressive, but I know people have done impressive things with the MP. Hang in there, and let JDM know what happened...I'm sure they will take care of you.

hmmm

i wanna say that either you are dumping boost or your bypass isn't adjusted. Or.....with that 2.7 upper you are getting belt slip.

That fact that you aren't hitting full boost till the end of the pull means all your torque is getting thrown out the window. You should be up in the mid 500 ftlb with that set up no problem. I would try a new belt, maybe some idlers.

I have twin 100 mm idler pulleys w/ a brand new gatorback belt and I watched for belt slipage while he was tuning and making pulls and there was none what so ever

As far as the bypass being adjusted what do you mean?

I ran the Mag just the way it came, no one ever spoke about adjusting the bypass

Could this cause the boost to be dumped early in the pull?

I have the Boost bypass mod done but that shoud help it to get boost whenever its needed right?

Thanks for your input
Dennis

yes

Yes, there is a butterfly in the back of the blower that either recirulates the air flow or closes to build boost. If it is not adjusted correctly, you aren't making the boost you should be untill the higher rpm when it seems to overflow the boost valve.......even still you are loosing boost. Do a search, there are a few posts on how to adjust correctly. I would say that might be the first place to start.

I don't post much here, but I thought I would say that mine was adjusted wrong when it came from JDM. 5 minutes to fix. A definite must check.

Your boost is a little down for the pullies you are running. You should see about 16~17 right now with those pullies. At 14~15 pounds the MP won't do $#it. You gotta spin them to about 17~18 pounds to get any numbers out of them. I have the same pulley combo as you, and I see about 16~17 in this weather and in this area.

BTW; where are you located? I am in Pensacola

Wow, I would be pi$$ed too. Iam sure a phone call tuesday will solve what ever the problem is.

I know two trucks firsthand that are running that blower, and both made major gains in the power dept. Maybe they will chime in and help out.

Hope everything gets squared away for you and your truck

I used the stock gasket seals that came off the Eaton and intercooler when I switched to the Magnum

Should I have used some kind of gasket sealer or new gaskets seals when switching blowers and cleaning the intercooler?
