Almost got an L

Well guys, I have been a member here for a while although I don't post much. I was planning on getting a lightning for a long time, and I actually talked to a few dealers about getting one. I talked to planet ford and wanted to buy a leftover 2003 red L that they had there, but they wouldn't even take $1 off the $33k price of it. No matter what I did, they said that they would never budge on the price. I couldn't get any of the dealers that I talked to around here to budge on the price. SOOO I went to Lawrence Marshall in Hempsted, TX to settle on a plain truck. What I saw was a 2003 Victory Red Silverado SS. I have always been a chevy guy, so I talked to them, got them to the price that I wanted, and bought it. I have already raced one Lightning in town, and of course got waxed. It was still fun though. Well I just wanted to say hi, and if any of you guys are around College Station, let me know. I would like to hang out, and maybe check out your trucks. I know it isn't a L, but here it is. Let me know what you think

Just because it isn't a lightning?

I Know that it isn't as fast as a lightning, doesn't have as much potential to go as fast as lightnings can either. Also would cost a decent amount of $$ to make it as fast as a stock Lightning.

Speed isn't everything though. I really do wich I had blower whine, but to me there are a lot of positives with this truck too. More seating, AWD, safer, got it cheaper than a new L, and I am a chevy guy.

I would like to hear your reasons though.

PS I would LOVE to have a lightning. I think that they are probably the most Badass trucks ever made. I love this truck too though.

Chevy truck

Nice truck! If you are happy with it, it really doesn't matter much what others think.

You might have more fun posting on a Chevy forum, though...

Yeah don't let one opinion speak for the crowd. I like it and it is a GREAT color.

I hate to tell you this, but I spoke with my dealer and he said he could get a leftover 03 with very few miles for around 26,500.

Anyway, good luck and damn good looking truck.

The SS has neither "style" nor "speed." I think it's time for a name change.

You claim you wanted a Lightning at first, and state price as being a deciding factor in your SS purchase. Did the SS cost less? If both were brand new, I would assume the Lightning *had* to be cheaper by quite a margin considering there is over a $10,000 difference between the sticker prices of the two trucks. I couldn't imagine you paying less than $33,000 for a brand new SS.

For those who wish to criticize my statements, I'm only expressing my opinion, which, in this case, happens to be in the majority. People on here will tell you they like your new truck, but they're only feeding you BS. We don't like the SS. It looks like crap. It's as slow as crap. We've gone over the topic of how much we dislike SS Silverado's on more than one Lightning forum. It's been beaten to death. Everybody knows it...they just might not tell you.

But then again, maybe it's all okay because you're a "Chevy guy."

Nothing wrong with your purchase. Hell you worked for the money so buy whatever the f' you want with it, but I got to agree with this guy. My old lady works for Chevy, her dealer has a demo SS with 4800 miles exactly like the one in that picture that has been on the lot since December. Even with her employee discount and all the rebates it is still $32k. I thought of trading for it because it has one big option you can't get on an L, All Wheel Drive.

Back to the point, what did you pay???????

Hey man, Im in college station. I dunno if you've seen me or not, but Im in the silver L with the cowl hood. I've seen two red SS's in the past couple of days . . . one really dirty with writing on the windows, and one much newer looking. The paint was real shiny on it. I passed that one today (thursday) on my way to blinn on Texas, was this you?

New '04s in the $28k and change range, as well.

I'm sorry but I think LightningGuy said it. He is right on. However, styleandspeed, if you like your truck, which I'm assuming you do because you bought it, enjoy it and don't let anyone discourage you. I will admit that it wasn't the wisest move by Chevy to go after the Lightning with the SS but I remember reading once that Chevy built it not to compete with the Lightning but to be a well rounded performance truck. For example, they gave it better towing and payload and built it on a truck with an extra cab so all in all, it makes a more usable, more practical truck. Enjoy it and good luck with it. Can anyone post a pic of the back of a Lightning so we can get him ready for his next race?
