$450... thats a little much to get your truck tuned right??

I called the local dyno shop, Speedworks in lewisvill Texas, and I told them I was going to get a 4# Crank pully, and asked them how much it was to have my L tuned. His reply was $450!!!! I was like, "WTF". Isn't that a lot, or is it just me... I figured like 50-200 at most. How much is it when you guys get your tuned??

thanks

one place 5 mins from me.........500 for a chip burn plus the chips cost. Another place about 45 mins from me is 400 to do it. Both of these places charge 100 an hour to tune. But if they hit it on the money on the second pull.........might walk out with a 150-200 bill. Ask them how much it is an hour.

Well, prices definitely vary from arear to area, but just for comparisons sake...

If you came to PSP, it would be $100 for the first 2 pulls on the dyno with A/F, $25 each pull after that and $100 for the tuning. So at a minimum, you're looking at about $225 if we can tune it in 3 pulls. Now if you need a chip, add $275 to that, or add $399 for an SCT 9100, or $419 for a Predator.

Sal's prices are a pretty good match for So. California pricing. Figure $250-$300 for dyno time and tune and about $425 for the predator.

Did your quote for $450 include a chip or did they intend to somehow modify the factory ECM? I had a predator done and was stunned at how much the drivability of the truck improved. Yeah, the power was nice, but the difference in throttle response was great. If you're going to do the 4#, I think you'd be doing yourself a dis-service to do it without some sort of aftermarket chip or programmer like the predator. I know that spending $700 for "a tune" seems steep, but the results will be worth it.

Only if you're good at solving equations with a couple 100 variables. You know, there's a reason why people drive 100s of miles just to get that special tuner to do it

I'm using a local shop and got the SCT4 and unlimited burns for $400 + 3 dynos/$50, but.... they are still learning the 100s of variables in the software, and as such there's lots of room for improvement in my tune.

give this guy a try. he reflashed my ecu on my mustang that is supercharged, blah blah blah. give him a call, i can promise you that if he does not talk to you when you call him, or if he is on the other line, misses your call etc. he will call you. i consider him a friend. if you've never hurd of Jerry W. from sct, they are very good friends and use the same tunning software. his name is dennis reinhart:

not sure

The guy on the phone said it was $450 for computer tuning, to me it sounded like no chip or anthing... from what you guys say, it will end up being worth it to have it tuned. So I will end up doing that. But it still seems steep, but engines aren't all the same and they have to really know what they are doing so well Oh well is what Im tryin to Say... OH WELL, just a good 4 weeks work for me ... Can I do the same thing with the preditor tuner http://www.rpmoutlet.com/lightdiapl.htm??

After all is said and done it will be around $650, seems like a lot for 4 psi of boost, it seems like I could get that much by dropping a few ice cubes in my intercooler!! hahaha

thanks for the posts

I paid a bit more than that at REM. But they made a bunch of pulls and I'm awfully proud that my 4# truck can bust 12.4s @ 109mph.

Well worth every penny IMO.

i gotta agree with L-menace here just because someone can tune doesn't mean they know what to tune on our trucks. i had a pretty good dyno tune last year, it made good number on the dyno but at the track it just wasn't cutting it. Sal took that same program made a few changes on how the convertor locked up and timing down low and i instantly dropped a tenth off my 60 and 3 tenths of the 1/4. all with out changing a/f or any thing else in the upper rpm's.

btw Thank you Sal for doing that for me.

as far as SCT being the future of tuning goes, i gotta disagree. they have opened up the door on some new technoligy but others will follow that just might surpass them.

their will be others making a maf that will do the same as theirs is.

BTW: others will disagree, but SCT is the future of tuning, between runs, the chip can be retuned in 1-2 minutes, VS 10-15 minutes with outher chips. (think dyno time $$$)
Also, SCT is the only tuning company coming out with MAF sensors capable of handling hte power some of these beasts are putting out.

Once the MAF is PEGGED.. it is a shot in the dark. (depending on weather conditions you may be lean or rich) SCT has the solution.
stay tuned. [/B]

don't forget MPE for just dyno pulls. $50 for 2 pulls or $60 for 3 pulls is worth the trip. Even though you're your own tuner, at least you can get things checked out without taking out a loan.
