Auto Meter Instrument Cluster

Anyone know how Auto Meter handles the programing of the
odometer? This would be a great idea. I've had to tear my
cluster out twice in 9 months to fix the same problem.

fcmiller, since you've looked at the back of your gauge cluster can you tell if it is set up for a volt meter or is that whole section of the circuit board missing because of the mechanical boost? Thanks.

Still pursuing information of the autometer gauge cluster...

UPDATE:

These clusters are manufactured by Simco.

You can see them at http://www.simcoltd.com/F150_module.htm

I asked them about the possibility of ordering ones with the 150 speedo or for myself without the flamed logo they use on their line. This was their response:

Norm,
We engineer and manufacture many new products and for our customers, including Roush, Saleen, Autometer…... Simco has a patent pending on the Custom Cluster module, such as the one for the F-150.
However, at this time we do not manufacture single products. It is very costly to engineer a high quality product and re-print our graphics, which would equate to a very high sale price for 1-10 units. Please feel free to view our ‘Shop Online’ for future updates.
Thank you,

Simco, Ltd
www.SimcoLtd.com

Their price is a lot lower than autometer and I bet if enough of you want one they may be able to do a 150 speedo like the mustang module already has.
I have sent another email to them about the possibility of me removing the logos myself with out damage, we shall see.

If they will put a 150MPH speedo in, as well as offer functional oil pressure and water temp gauges (real numbers) + a boost gauge I'll take one.

The speedo is easy, just silk screening but for your other requests they would have to provide sensors and a replacement pcb to replace the Ford one. It would be cheaper for you to just buy those additional gauges and a pod. I agree that that would be ideal though!

So, lets get a count on how many people would be willing to purchase if they made a custom setup for us.

I'm in, but is has to be a 160 or 180 mph. A 150 mph gauge would not be worth it in my opinion.

Again, it uses the Ford PCB so you would get 150 like the lightning oem.

Actually the OEM Lightning cluster only goes to 140, not 150.

Lastest info, sent a e-mail to Simco and here's their response:

"We would produce what is on our Shop_online web site except for graphic changes. The estimated cost would be $499.00 each for a purchase of a minimum 10 custom face F150 cluster modules. The graphics that you want would have to be reviewed by our engineering department for verification of printing. We cannot print Trademark names like “Autometer, Roush, ect….” for private individuals.

Thank you,

Simco, Ltd"

I just sent another e-mail asking if they could make an autometer cluster for an aftermarket parts retailer. Hopefully they will, then maybe we can find one of our vendors that will help us out for little additional cost.

Are there actual gauge housings behind the face or are they pseudo gauges?

My Red Rocket, unfortunately the Lightning cluster is completely different than the stock unit and does not have any of the voltmeter arrangement left. The Boost guage replaces it completely.

ShockTherapy, I'm not sure what you mean by psuedo gauges but each dial in the gauge has a D'Arsonval movement behind it. That is why the oil pressure gauge is such a mystery. The movement is in the gauge, why Ford chose not to use it as a fully functioning instrument is strange.

I meant is there something like a regular 2 1/16 gauge housing behind each gauge, or is it a panel with gauges that only resemble an aftermarket gauge? I was wondering if you could just unbolt one "gauge" and put another in it's place.

No seperate housings, all one piece, mates directly to Ford PCB.
