Check out my $27 chrome grill

OK, so I did the wheel molding grill "mod" on my black 03 Lightning and I wanted to post the results. Originally I feared it would look a little "ghetto" up close, but I am really impressed with the results. I believe this was originally done by Redlightn 02-- thanks for the tip bro. Have a look and let me know what you think:

And I put up a little info page with a small gallery here:

BTW, if anyone has any tips on how to cover up front license plate bracket holes, please share. I just took the front plate bracket off and my bumper now has two small but ugly "eyes".

I like it...a cheap alternative to the Harley/J-Jent grill combo...

I like it...the look is cool...

I remember seeing these red shining reflect buttons that were threaded with a wingnut...I think they were on a bike and could be even found at a Bike Shop ??...If you could find something like that and put them in the lic. holes you may fix that issue and have them add to the looks of the truck...

From: Colorado,
Colorado law requires a front plate. I got stopped for not having one.

Try you local auto body paint supply house. They have tons of little plastic inserts.

Or even a Hobby Lobby

How about just a dab of black silocone with a cue tip.
I am sure if you can be just as creative as you were with the grill it will come out nice.

Looks great in the pictures.

Slick_Sammy,

It looks excellent, good job!

To cover the tag bracket holes, take a look at this, it fits perfect and looks great.

Chiken Wings

In order to work, it will have to be bent slightly (over your upper leg does fine). Tip: Bend it to slightly more than the curve of the bumper cover and when it relaxes, the ends stick good enough to withstand a hurricane.

Just curious, is the wheel molding the same as door edge molding? You mentioned 3/8", is that the depth of the "U" shape and it just slips over the leading edges of the grill bars? The photo's don't show clearly but when looking down on the grill can you still see the original color where the molding stops???

Enquiring mind.............

Frank

Great job Slick looks great on black.

Hey frankmP the wheel molding is not the same as the door edge molding. The wheel molding has the 3m tape on the back so all you have to do is cut and press on the molding, you 're going to need two packs as one will not do the top and bottom.

Looks very good. I honestly thought it was a Harley grille. I was thinking maybe you bought a Harley grille for $27.00 on ebay or something and then I realized what you did. Good Job!
