We have some new competition

I was watching Car and Driver TV and Chevy and JGP (sp?) have a new supercharged truck out. I don't have a lot of info on it besides it's $37k loaded, and runs a 14.0 sec 1/4 stock. They should have just supercharged their SS's

Anyone have more info on this truck? It looked pretty sweet.

I think you may be referring to the Joe Gibbs Chevy. I believe most stock L's could still take one though.

You're probably referring to the Joe Gibbs SS.
I guess they're somewhat competitive, especially
if the boost is increased.
If they supercharged the SSR the price tag would be
well into the 50K range. I believe they plan on doing
it on the 05 model.

I was talking about supercharging the Silverado SS, not the SSR.

Yeah it was a Joe Gibbs' truck, actually his son is the president of the company. Still don't understand why chevrolet didn't do something like that instead of the SS?? Still prefer the lightning over the JG!

The Gibbs is slower and about 38k in s/c, full featured trim. It does come with a warranty although there are only a dozen or so dealers that sell them and handle the work.

Actually, they're dropping a 390hp N/A LS2 into it. That's gonna be a very fun to drive cruiser. Expensive though.

Peaked into the engine compartment on one of these trucks and even took a test drive in one. The supercharger looked small and they only used a 6 rib belt to run it. It was a true rear inlet design though which i am sure has a good effect. The truck made great low end but wouldn't touch a stock lightning in my opinion. Trucks are extremely ugly if you ask me. Seems like they cost alot for what you are getting. i think the joe gibbs package costs 15 grand or something and it only has a half ton transmission. Ohh well. Lightning rules!!!

For 05 the SSR is getting the Corvette engine putting out 390hp with the 6 speed. They are also tuning the suspension to match.

I think this will go a long way to make the truck alot more desirable.

I'm sure Chevy would have alot of problems like the Dodge has right now. Chevrolet transmissions IMO are not that great, my camaro SS always had trany problems. This is the only truck I've had that the transmission hasn't gone out in.

Is this a wide production vehicle or just a handful being built?

TB,

In the post by 'deus' he states that "The Gibbs is slower and about 38k in s/c, full featured trim. It does come with a warranty although there are only a dozen or so dealers that sell them and handle the work."

I can't imagine them creating a lot of these, do the math. A dozen dealers each get a hundred of these trucks (a hundred that is a lot of one truck at a dealership) then the production numbers would be about 1,200. I doubt actual numbers are much over 600 a year, though I am just guessing.

Imagine walking up to a dealer lot and he has 25 - 30 of those things on the lot all priced at $37K. Yeah right, not at any dealerships I've been to lately.

Has anyone ever seen 25-30 Lightnings at one time on any given dealers lot?
