Question Hankook Tires?????

It's time for some tires and a friend of mine says "yeah my buddy just put some Hankook's on his Lightning and he loves em. I can get em for ya for $140/tire if ya want." Now I told him that they probably were not the stock size tire but he insists that Hankook does make a 295/45-18. Now I'm not one to buy *****ty tires but at the moment I am pressed for cash and these are souding pretty good. Does this company make tires for our truck or is it a misunderstanding? Thanks!

They are a decent tire for the price, but it also follows under the golden rule "you get what you pay for". If money is tight, then they are a reasonable tire, but don't expect Goodyear or Toyo quality.

oh yeah and i strongly agree with that. Most things you can get cheaper, better, if you know how to do it. Tires just isn't one of those things. You almost always get exactly what you pay for.

I have been running them for about 3K miles now. No problems, they do have a stiffer sidewall then the goodyears so they ride a bit more harsh...

I talked to a dude with a L in my town who has them on the rear only (F1's on front) and he said he liked them better than the F1's. (said they hooked better)

Toyo's are only "good in quality" if you are concerned about wear. But for performance, they are not in the same realm as the Goodyear F1.

If you're strapped for cash, drive the other vehicle or baby your current tires for a while longer. I assume the extra $50 bucks per tire can be made or saved within a short time, considering you do own a $30,000 Lightning.

Quality and performance are two entirely different things, that's why I only mentioned quality in my post.

The idea of running around with billboard-sized "HANKOOK" letters on my tires sends cold chills up my spine.

Did I heard quality and Goodyear in the same sentence.

I don't think that has ever happened in the history of the world before.

What "quality" would you be referring to then? When looking at tires for a performance vehicle, I generally attribute traction, grip, handling, etc. as signs of quality.

In my opinion, hankooks would be well suited for a person like me. I just plain beat the tar out of my L. Sideways around corners, smokey burnouts, etc, etc, etc. Why not get a cheap tire since they will just go up in smoke? On race day, the F1s (from the front) can head to the back and get me the extra traction.

See my reasoning on this one?

I guess if you want some tires to beat on, the cheapest will do. However, I know that when I "beat" on my truck, I like to win...and that means traction. I do the same thing you do, but I prefer to actually hook so I go with Nitto DRs. Smokey burnouts are for when I'm about to slap on a new set....

See my reasoning on this one?

point well taken. no intent on ruffling feathers, just showing my whats on my side of the equals sign.

On a side note, I cant get a race for anything around my neck of the woods and I work most weekends that I could get to the track and race for money, so its cheap thrills for me.

i have em, and am totaly satisfied, IMHO equal to the Good years in dry traction, however goodyear have them beat in the rain, they channel the H290 well but are slippery in the rain, and with the 420 tread wear i can smoke the heck out of em and they still have good tread.
