Hire a Private Adjuster?
I can't imagine any insurance would even allow that, and even if you did I can't imagine they would be under any obligation to accept an outside adjuster's estimate.
(Now I don't know this, and am just assuming, but) it would seem to me that in holding an insurance policy and singing it and all, you would be agreeing to their terms as stated in the policy. I can't imagine that an insurance company would pay out unless it was their adjusters estimating the claim, I mean, they write the policy . . .
I'm curious to know if anyone has really actually DONE this, bring in an outside adjuster, and have their insurance company honour it ? . . .
Or are the suggestions to do this based on things you've heard others do, or the usual a friend of my brother's cousin's sister-in-law heard of a neighbor's second great aunt having this done?
Don't get me wrong, I HOPE YOU CAN DO THIS, and I beleive that insurance companies are the scums of the earth, but if I were running an insurance company I would make it a clause in the policies that by buying the insurance form us you agree to use our adjusters since we're cutting the cheques. That just makes sense business-wise, and insurnace companies don't get as rich as they do by giving money away, and if they do it ain't without a fight.

Well Well the mechanic changed the fluids and it runs as good is before. The interrior is still a little wet but the adjuster told him to spare no expence take then all apart and clean or replace teh seats and carpet. Change the fluids again and find out what else that I want checked cleaned or fixed.
The adjuster also told me that it was covered under this claim for ever that if anythign happened to it it was still covered. and it would not show up on carfax that carfax would show that it had work done at a mechanics shop that it all.
I called a friend of a cusin thingy he is an adjuster and he said that if the glue incide the computer was still sticky feeling that the water didn't damage anythign if it didn't get into the fuse block and you could tell by the dust line on the back of teh fuse block. that I would have nothing to worry about. That is what he checks before he totals a truck so that is 2 adjusters that say it is not totaled.
I am going to call the ILL Dept of Ins in the mornign to see what hey says and see what can be done. If I could have about a grand in mods covered I would like to keep the truck because I have drove a few over this last week and my L is 10 times nicer than the other ones I drove.
I don't know how people treat there trucks like that. BUt well see what happens.
I will let you guy know

Oppps! I dunno what happened but its underwater. Write me a check for 25k please.
Sunk in the water? That thing is toast. Make them total it.

How far in did your truck actually go? Your thread title makes it sound like it went completely under the water. Did it just get water above the bottom of the doors?

This is BAD! Hydrolocking a motor usually causes major damage!
Water doesn't compress nearly as well as air does!

It FLOATS I am not joaking it really does it floated I was standing on the ramp and the water at about my neck and the door handle was above my head. I used my jet ski to push the truck back to the ramp and by the time I got it back to the ramp the water was over the bottom of the seats on the inside and out side the water was over the door handle but it did not run in the window which was down.
I am kinda scared of eletrical problems but mostly I am worried about carfax.
How do they get their information?? Will it show that X amount was paid out to joeblow's garage for this truck and it was from water damage??
I don't know.
I also called JDM and talked to Jim Jr. and he said that If teh motor is running good and teh blower is boosting that the snout bearings could have some water in them but probibly not since it is running good there is probibly nothing wrong.

I've had first hand experience with a street flood vehicle and was equally afraid of electrical gremlins. It was fairly clean fresh water, recovered quickly and drying work started within a day. I think the biggest factor in saving a flooded vehicle is how quickly it gets dried out. If they pulled the seats and carpet out quickly and started the drying process right away, you should be ok. The biggest problem is with anything that got wet and stays wet with the battery hooked up. Even though fresh water is not highly conductive, electrical items don't like to work while wet. My two biggest concerns were the ECM and the starter. The ECM was pulled and put in a 130 degree oven overnight. It has worked just fine. Nothing was done to the starter and I asked a starter shop about it and was told "Nah, they're tough'".
The starter still works just fine 3 years later. All of the above applies to fresh water only. Salt water makes instant scrap out of a car. Areas to double check: Foam sound deadening panels like those around the seat belt reels, sound deadening behind the door panels. A/C and heater ducting. Power steering reservoir.
Hope it works as well for you....
