What kind of subs??
What kind of subs??
Wsup guys,
Currently I'm runnin 2 12" Kicker Solobaric L5's behind a Kicker 1200.1 amp and am just not happy with the sound. I have everything squared away in the sound department, but I just can't get the sound I want out of the subs and it's driving me insane. I love kicker, and my old 15's used to pound, but I had more airspace, I went with the L5's because they required less space, but am coming to wits end.
Anyone running a W7, if so, how the hell did you get it to fit because I would LOVE to get one in there.
Anyone running JL's?? How do they sound.
I'm looking for any info you can provide, I'll upload pics of my box later, it's full fiberglass, I made it, not painted yet though because I'm not totally happy and may be starting from scratch. I have the power, yellowtop, components, just need a great sounding sub for a semi-small enclosure or a way to get ONE W7 in there.
Thanks in Advance,
Ed

Well what sound are you looking for? Different vehicles have different limitations especially space-wize. I had an extended cab Silverado before the Lightning. I had the bed cut out and a snuglid on it. the front of the bed housed two Cerwin-Vega Stroker 18" DVC subs that each got fed over 1000watts. Needless to say the system in my Lightning cannot hold a candle to what that thing did. I have found happiness in the form of a Pro-form box with Rockford 10" subs.....a far far cry from my last system but it works well.
What kind of response are you looking for and what kind of music do you primarily listen to?

I listen to alot of rock and country.
I find it will hit the deeper longer notes, but it has trouble with fast response, this makes me think it's an airspace issue. So I was wondering if going to one W7 would solve my issue, or maybe a round sub, or just something different because I'm not too thrilled with this setup.
I guess I'm looking for what people have that works, I want LOUD and clear.

Hell what you want is easy to accomplish compared to those who need ultra low rumbling. I read that your box is fiberglass. Did you construct it with MDF/Particleboard/Plywood and then fiberglass over it OR is it constructed solely of fiberglass? How much airspace do you have total and does it have seperate chambers for each Sub?
Kickers have always loved small sealed enclosures and seperate chambers to produce what you are looking for. The enclosure should be very stiff - inflexible - to get what you want. It would be best for it to built from a traditional material and then fiberglassed for the ultimate seal. It is also very important to give those subs seperate enclosures to get the response you are after and the chambers need to be completely sealed from each other....no partial divider.

i just put in an orion hcca 10d in a 1.4 cu. ft. ported box, with 900 watts rms to it. i love it! sounds great with rock and rap alike. i listen to a lot of classic rock too.
pictures are in my gallery on this site.
you might try to run some dedicated mid-bass drivers. that is my plan. i just need to finish my fiberglass kick panels to hold my component set, then i will be putiing some kicker rmb8's in my front doors.

I think I'm just not happy with the subs as Brian said. I'm lookin to possibly go JL. My old 15 kickers, free airs
, rocked. I think it's just time for a speaker change. One W7 would make me happy but I'm thinking about the W6v2's or something along those lines.I will check out Orion, and memphis and so forth I guess....was just looking for what everyone else was using.

I have a JL W6v2 in my L and a Rockford power series T1 in my regular cab F150. The interiors are as close as you can get, besides having the same vehicle. Both have eclispe head units. The Jl is recieving 400 watts and the Rockford 500. Up until now I've prefered JL, but in my opinion the Rockford has a better response and sounds more musical. The JL sounds overly pronounced in the lower regions. You really can't go wrong with either one. There is always room for adjustment, x-over points, amp, power, box size, etc.
What I like about the JL is its ability to be used in a smaller box and it needs less power. Both woofers will require about the same mounting depth.
The Rockford is a bit more power hungry, needs a slightly bigger box. It can be had in either a dual 2ohm or 4ohm. The new JL W6 is only available in dual 4ohm, but it cost $50 less.
As far as the W7 fitting? You won't be able to fit one in the typical fashion(cone forward). Unless of course you don't mind losing a few clicks on the seat adjustment. I have considered a cylindar box, but I haven't measured. It may be a better fit, then again it may end up the same.

Did you lose any legroom??
I have a 1200.1, power isn't a big deal, but I would love to get 2 nice 12's in there, or maybe 2 10's or just one 12, I can't figure out what will work best.

How much are you willing to spend should be the first question.
At what impedance does that amp make full power?
Are you willing to make a new enclosure to go along with the new subs?
