I have read, not personally seen, that some folks unplug that and get error codes and check engine lights.

Me neither. Unplugged mine over a year ago.

Just make sure you unplug the correct one.

Seems like another life ago...
The second day after I purchased my Lightning I took her out first thing in the morning for a get acquainted drive...
I had never owned a high horsepower automatic trans car in my life.
I didn't have a clue!!!
I manually dropped her into low and proceeded to WOT...Figuring I would just slide her up to two, then drive.
Before I could blink I was on the rev limiter and dumped boost!!!
I just knew I had blown the motor!!!
I sat on the side of the road for a couple minutes feeling as low as I have ever felt.
Oh happy days...she started right up when I finally got my pulse below 150 bpm.
I went home with my tail between my legs and a few months later I found this site.
How things have changed...
Practicaly everything I know about these trucks I have learned here on F-150 online.

I decided to just unplug it. Took it for a spin and for the first time it pegged the boost gauge! My only mods are K&N Filter/airbox mod and boost bypass. One thing though, since I bought the truck(2 weeks ago) when I do a WOT blast, it shifts to second, and I hear a funny sound out the exhaust. Almost like a farting noise. I thought it was dumping boost, but a few minutes ago, it did it again. After the bypass trick. Any ideas? Oh well, 10lbs of boost feels good! Thanks again guys!

My 2000 made the exact same sound, even after the boost bypass and even after I changed my catback. My 03 on the other hand has never made that noise. Would the fact that I've been running a larger pulley on the 03 since day one be the reason it doesn't do it?

Possibly a side effect of Torque reduction.

The farting sound on the 1-2 shift is perfectly normal. Its called "Torque Reduction".

TR shuts off half the cylinders for a millisecond on WOT, 1-2 shifts.

It does this to preserve your 2nd gear.

Without it,2nd gear takes a hellva hit.

If you ever get a chip, you can have the TR function turned off if you want.
