Just a chip and downside to longevity ?

Does a chip affect the longevity of a daily driver ? I know keeping your foot in it will affect the life of our engines but how about just the chip itself ?

The way you presented your question tells me that you would be allright with a chip.

Good maintenance, good tune, common sense and a little luck are the key to a long happy life with everything.

Only if you blow it up.

I've run a chip for about 78,000 miles. My truck made it's quickest runs at 84,000 miles. I run a conservative tune-up with a 2 lb. pulley.

your "head and right foot" will have the most direct bearing on the longevity of your motor. Unless ofcourse you buy a chip from some speedshop or such. But since your here, Iam sure you know to purchase one from one of our vendors,

For what its worth, I had my chip out for a few days getting a reburn.........and I'll NEVER drive a Lightning without a chip/SCT or such

Having driven a Lightining before and after the predator was done, I was impressed by the horsepower change, but the best part of all was the significant inprovement in the overall driveability. The lean spots are gone and I think the change makes it run like the factory prototypes did. I cannot imagine any negative effects on longevity, except for one problem. Once you see how much better it runs with just that change, you'll be looking at pulleys in a heartbeat. The formula is simple: Predator plus airbox plus pulley equals true gratification. From there, you are on your own.......

2001 L bought new--modded(pulley, CAI, CHIP, etc.) at about the 3,000 mile mark. Drive it daily and 1/4 mile it(althought, not lately) too. 72,000 miles on it now. Never been to a shop except for tires and brakes.

I'd say that's pretty good "longevity" .

I bought mine from a "Speedshop" and it's better than any vendor's tune here.

Then again, this speedshop flies Jerry in from Michigan to tune cars.

Out of all the vendors here I would use PSP, Sal is a great guy and his tuning skills are good. He knows how to properly get past the MAF maxing out and rescale everything. Sal + SCT has got to be a killer tune.
