Post Removing stock fan

I am trying to remove the stock fan from my 03 Lightning. Can anyone tell me for sure which way to turn the fan to get it loose from the H20 pump. I have done a search and have found conflicting answers.
Thanks in advance!

it unscrews counter clock wise.

Service Manual says:

Nothing about the left hand threads so I imagine it is normal....

It does say you need a few "special" tools.

A fan Clutch Hub Nut Wrench ... 303-240 (T84T-6312-D)
and a Fan Pulley Holding Wrench ... 303-239 (T84T-6312-C)

It is impossible for the fan to loosen by itself due to the directional threads of the cooing fan. When the engine is running, the fan would only tighten, not fall off. To remove the fan, turn the wrench in the same direction that the engine turns.

^ what he said. I just looked in the service CD and it says nothing about a left handed thread...... I also looked at my stock water pump to verify...JR

Well, finally got that sucker off. The threads were RH threads so we turned it counter clockwise to remove it. The method that worked was one pipe wrench on the pump shaft, and another pipe wrench on the fan nut, then tapped the pipe wrench on the nut with a BFH (big f'n hammer) and it finally gave up.

I would like to give a huge thanks to Cliff (aka SVT_KY) for first bringing over the instructions from his shop manual and then going back home to his house to get another pipe wrench and the BFH. Cliff you are truly a great friend, I owe you big time for making not one but two trips over to my house to lend a hand and to supply the right tools on a rainy Saturday night. I wish all of you guys (and gals) here on the board could understand the stuff the Cliff is always willing to do to lend a hand.

Well, you are the first person I met with a Lightning ... and
that dayum exhaust that you had started me on the road to ruin,
so it's the least I can do to repay you ...

Anytime, my friend, what's mine is yours.

i just used a pipe wrench and a big screw driver to put between the water pump pulley bolts to hold it in place. it generally works easy in tight spots

Bad Blue,

The fan thread is a standard right hand thread, unscrews counter clockwise.

I make a fan spacer for my SC kits and I use a standard M30 x 1.5 tap.
