OK . . . Have at it . . .
Thoughts...
From the article:
"The Ram is just plain faster and it's easier to tap the available power than it is in the Lightning."
Uhh... dude, you just have to hit the go pedal. Easier? a Monkey could drive an automatic.
"I was also somewhat disappointed in the Lightning's propensity to smoke the inside tire when applying the throttle in a turn. The standard features list says the truck has a "traction lock" rear differential, but our experiences with the truck suggest otherwise."
I kinda have to agree on this one. the "traction lock" could definitely use some beefing up. It seems to work well in a very straight line... but the roads around here aren't like that

I jsut posted this over there ...
Do you think the review was fair to compare
a $60,000 vehicle with a $28,000 vehicle?
When you consider the Dodge has 120 more HP, I
would actually expect it to best the Lightning
by more than teh measealy 3 mph on the top end
and the .2 in the quarter mile.
A mere chip and a pulley in any F150 Lightning
is enuff to smoke the SRT anywhere. Not bad for
a 5 year old platform, eh?
And another thing.
Just wait til the SRT-10 boys find out how much
perfromance VIPER parts cost. LOL
See you on the STREET and STRIP, Hemi-Lovers ...

guess the joke is still on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The comparisons seemed fair to me....the 1/4 mile times I have some slight beef with though.... I ran anywhere from 13.6-13.8 stock.... as have many Lightning owners..... for some reason most of these tests show 14.xx time slips..... maybe they just dont know how to launch an auto??
... I would think the SRT would be harder to hook up.
I think they are correct when comparing the agressiveness of the two trucks, but to call the SRT the "king of performance trucks" seems a little over the top....maybe more fun because of the 6-speed....but dont the real 1/4 mile times mean anything?
just my .02

Seemed very fair, well- balanced, and accurate.
The high 1/4 times are suspect, but everyone keeps seeing the same approx. 1/2 sec advantage for the SRT.
Issues:
1. NFW that the SRT is easier to launch than a Lightning.
2. Both trucks tested the same in 60-0 braking, yet the article makes it seem that the SRT brakes are vastly superior.
3. When anyone says that the SRT is as nice looking as the L, I just have to shake my head.
4. These guys kept crowing about the SRT sound system. Makes me question whether they are really car guys. Who cares? If SVT would put decent brakes on the truck (better pedal feel, repeatable stops), I wouldn't care it they deleted the sound system entirely.
SVT-KY: Where in the hell are you getting your prices from? If you are trying to account for SVT discounts and SRT markups, that's not fair either.

I love my L more then just about anything, to me it has it all, looks, feel, performance and it can TOW!
If it can’t tow it ain’t no truck…

I had the same problem and took my truck into a friend who worked at a dealer. He took apart my diff and discovered that it was 35/1000ths out of spec. This wasnt wear in the clutches it was actually out of spec and came that way from the factory. He reshimmed my diff and made it 10/1000ths tighter than factory spec and I can now spin both tires evenly at WOT around a corner
Now back on Topic, I drove a SRT10 a few weeks ago and other than the body , I liked the truck. As far as people whinning about cost vs cost, I guess history does repeat itself. The Dakota RT guys did the same thing in 99 when the Lightning came out. Why cant you guys just face it, the Gen 2 is the underdog compared to a SRT10. Hopefully the Gen 3 will bring top dog back to Ford but dont think it will come in at $30,000 like a Gen 2.
I recently attended a Saturday night car show in the DFW area and there was a guy with a pretty cool SS-Camaro there. We talked about his car and then he asked what I had and I point to my truck... his eyes lit up as he told me one of his buds just sold his z28 and bought a Lightning. Okay... so this is not news...
But then I find out he works for a Dodge dealer in town and is in charge of new car prep... he starts to tell me of all the troubles with the new SRT-10. Not that it's a piece of crap but man... they have troubles. Trying to shift under hard acceleration from 2nd to 3rd... the computer has a fart and forces it back to 1st... bingo bango... hosed motor as it over rev's. Told me he has had several in for this and other stuff too.
I think the truck is a good looker and the interior is decent... the bugs will be worked out but man... spend the kind of money they do and it has problems like this... I'd seriously be honked off!

in a manual?!? Sounds more like a brain fart by the driver... or perhaps the tranny/engine moves so much due to torque that the shift pattern "moves"... I dunno, that's just wierd

Sticker on an L is around $32,600 and sticker on a SRT is around $49,000.
Yes it is still at least $15,000 more.........but not $30K+ like you had said.

the FORD dealer, and when I went to the DODGE dealer. No
deals ... Just asked what the price was out the door. That's
also what a friend of mine paid for the SRT ... 59,800 ...
Apples to Lemons maybe?
