Friday shall be the day...
To start negotiations. Im looking at a leftover Oxford White 03. One of 4 (
) leftover Lightnings and 5 (
) leftover Cobras at this particular dealership. As high as those numbers may seem, these guys are still hard-nosed on their prices.
I would ask (beg) for an x-plan pin but this dealership operates on something known as the "d-plan," that isnt applicable on SVTs. I think ill start $5,000 under the $33,000 sticker and offer $2,500 down.
So, any pointers? The salesman im dealing with is the same guy I bought my SVT Focus from, and hes pretty reasonable, with a dose of greed.

the dealership can choose to accept x-plan if they want to, if they won't, it is simply because they don't want to give up that extra profit. you probably aren't eligible for "d-plan" because d-plan is for ford dealership employees and their immediate families.
however, d-plan most definately can be applied to SVT purchases, I've bought two Lightnings that way, so if the salesman is telling you otherwise, then he is full of crap.
d-plan is the same price as "a-plan" which is for Ford Motor Company employees.
x-plan is slightly higher than a/d.
regardless of plans, if they won't negotiate on an '03, they are crazy. plus their MAY be rebates on remaining '03s because they are heritage editions.
I paid 28,500 for my '03 back in December of 2002, so I sure as hell wouldn't pay more than that nearly two years later!
good luck, don't let the salesman fast talk you, stick to your guns.
later,
chris

Check with some diff. dealerships cause around here i saw an ad over the weekend at a dealership in Nashville TN that had five 2004 Lightnings at $5,000 off MSRP. That would put them at around $29,000 I think. Good luck in whatever you do~!
that touch of greed seems to be running wild @ ford dealerships. I tried to get a 03 cobra a while back wit 23k miles and the ds would not move from 30k. Only said we dont have to go down b/c we know it will sell
bout a month back i looked at two in palm beach county brand new o3 l's i could have either one for 27,500 and thats with no d or x plan ,...just the fmcc guy waiting for ya in the next room with dr.jellyfinger and some rediculously high rate,..i walked
my 02 is running strong and looking good.
Quick update:
I ended up going to the dealership about 5mins from my house. I looked at an 04 Oxford White. After haggling for a little bit, getting the extremely good news that my cousin actually works at the dealership (For over 2 years now in parts, I had no clue. She could have at least said something when I mentioned I was buying a damn truck!) I ended up with a 30225 total invoice, 28959 A/D-plan price, 1000 dealer cash back, and a tonneau cover. Totalling out, im getting the truck for $27,959.
All ive got standing between me and 4600lbs of fun is financing and hoping my SVT Focus brings enough trade-in to pay itself off.

Your biggest weapon is being willing to walk out. Just let them know up front that you're not a tire kicker. It's also good to go in there pre-approved for the loan, and they will probably try to beat your interest rate.
