Will the 6.8L V-10 fit?

Has anybody tried? I can get a crate 6.8L V-10 remanufactured, along with parts and ECU from a wrecked Excursion from my uncle and of course, pick up the Whipple while I'm at it.

I would think a V10 would be to long to fit in the engine bay of our L's. But, if you have money, then I guess anything is possible.

If your thinking about it from a preformance aspect then is basicly flawed from the start. It's not a high rpm motor and it's heavy.

Early... early on we actually made some lightning prototypes that were extended cab versions w/a 6.8 and SC. It just can't compete with the current setup.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a V-10 a 5.4 with 2 extra cylinders? I would think that a supercharged V-10 should blow away a supercharged 5.4, even if it does weigh a little more. I could be wrong though.

Sounds like a wicked project, go for it!

I seriously considered this myself. It ended up being not worth all the effort and $$. The closest scenario that came close to the cost/gain ratio was a turbo inducted 6.8L. Many people that I spoke with said that the inherent sub-harmonics of the odd fire v-10 would make havoc on the crankshaft at the power levels I was talking about.

It will fit (physically, not a bolt in though), it could be tuned with your current computer (not by the average mail order chip though) and aftermarket parts are available to beef up the motor (rods pistons etc).

Bottom line was that pretty much EVERYONE I spoke with (including Tuners, software companies, Ford technicians, and 2 V-10 mustang guys) thought I'd be better off with a 5.4L in the long run.

It was just to involved and no big promised power numbers as not many have pushed the envelope with the V-10. I'm not going to be the $20,000+ guinea pig for this one.

Aside from the technical reasons for not doing it, (which I don' know squat about) I do think it will fit. A couple years ago I built a tranny for someone putting a 6.8L in a Crwon Vic, so it at least fit where a 4.6L was.
