04 F-150 Frames heavier

I was surfing about our favorite topic and trying to find out if there are differences in the 04 Lightning I just bought.

I know the payload capacity was increased by rear springs but is the frame actually stiffer as this article states?

Everything about the performance, handling and braking has been improved in the 2004 F-150. Though it felt well shy of its horsepower ratings, acceleration is very good. Over bumps the ride is non-jarring and compliant, giving the driver an excellent feel for the road. Braking power instills supreme confidence, enabling him or her to avoid the errant road-crossing deer or cow. (trust me, I know first-hand) Ford says that the this truck is twice as strong as the current F-150, with a frame nine times as stiff. I have no reason to question that.

It does feel different than my 99 but with the uprgraded shocks, lighter wheels, stiffers springs. It's hard to tell about the frame.

Maybe it only applies to the 4X4?
Comments Please.

They are right but wrong at the same time. A Lightning is not a "real" 04 F-150, they are the "Heritige Edidtion" which has all the same specs as the 03 models for the chasis.

Like Factory Tech said, that article is in reference to the new F 150 truck. The 04 Lightning is basically identical to the 03 Lightning. The new Lightning will moist likely have the new 04 F 150 type chassis.

this is true. but svt is working on lightening the chasis up so they can have a better power to weight ratio without having to increase the power a whole lot more. they don't want the gen3 L to have more power than the GT.

is it just me or do the little baby doors on the new reg. cab 150s look stupid as hell? it makes the front door shorter, it looks like you might bump your a$$ on the cab getting in and out.

a Custom Lightning frame would be awsome!

Lightning build from ground up for speed!

dunno how likely that is huh?

Are there any differences at all between the 2003 Lightnings and 2004's?
