grill choice opinions please

When i first bought my truck, i liked the billit grills. Now i think i like the 01-up style grill better. i may trade it off or something, what do you think?

That's a tough one...... I have a red 2003 that I think looks great with the grilles painted to match. But painted grilles on black become almost invisible. A billet grille which has been painted black and then just has the front of the bars polished looks very sharp on black. One of the biggest problems in painting a Lightning grille is the masking. The support bars and areas that don't go through should be done in black, but since the grilles have radiused corners everwhere it is really tough get the masking right. A white truck really shines with a bright grille, like the perforated metal type.

When you look at a dark color truck, you can't see the door gaps and individual panels like you can see on a light truck. But it is also harder to see the shape and the lines of the vehicle. A light truck shows the separation between evey panel but you can also see every detail of the spoilers. My rule would be big and bold on white and very subtle on black.

Again, just my 2 cents worth.

Chrome grill

On the dark color trucks I prefer chrome accents for the body. The harley Edition upper grill is a direct bolt in and the 02-03 grill looks GREAT IMO. Here's a pic of mine. Lower grill is fun to try to do something with. I've sent mine off to get it chromed which takes a good while to get done, or you can paint it body color to make it disappear or their is a comapny that makes a tubular grill to fit Lightning to match the upper harley grill but it's not quite right when looking closely at the upper and lower. The lower is made from polished stainless steel and has a yellowish hue to it while chrome has a bluish hue. So here's a pic...

Here's a $20 project you can do at home using chrome wheel moulding and the stock 02 grill, can't beat the Bang for the Buck.

I sitll like your billet one. Stull, right? That, and the 03 HD look best on Black L's IMO.

I thought I'd like the painted black grills you can buy for a Black L, but it's like there's nothing there. It needs teeth!

Check out Lightning Bob's picture gallery. He had his stock grill carbon filber'd.

But if you consider trading or selling that one, let me know. I still have my stock grill on.

My grilles were painted the factory black. I like it, mostly because it goes with the truck. I have black wheels...
