Amazing job with the chrome tape on the grille. I am now motivated to do it myself. Did you remove the grille in order to do this? If so is it difficult to remove and reinstall? Thanks, Ken

Ken, there is absolutely no removal of the stock grill. All you have to do is to purchase two rolls of chrome wheel molding that has a little curvature at the top, I got theTrim Brite 3/8" but there are similar brands available also in red or gold chrome.
The next step is to clean the grill really good with soap & water, then dry.Take one roll and start eyeballing the angle where the first fin of the grill starts in the left corner, (if you're right handed) then use a sharp razor to cut the end of the molding to that angle to match.
After matching the angle , peel the backing from the tape, butt the angled end you just made as close to the corner as possible and start pressing the molding as straight and flat as possible onto the front of the fin. You can always lift the molding back up if you think it's not straight and put it back on again, continue pressing until you reach the other end of the fin, then you'll have to gauge the angle of that end and cut, make it just a little bit longer, you can always cut it back until it fits.
Repeat this step for the other fins, also for the bottom grill. There's one part you have to be real careful and that's where the molding goes around the ford emblem. You'll have to cut really carefully and neatly INTO the molding around at the top and bottom of the emblem and that should do it.

Wheew!....I think that's the most I've typed in one thread, anyways it's always worth it to help out our L brothers as they have helped each other, that's why I love this site.

The chrome molding looks great. I did something similar last year. I used white pinstriping tape on the leading edge of the grill. Looks excellent on a white truck, and I imagine any pinstriping that matched body color would look good too.

 

Yeah, I started with red striped tape also and had it for a while, but since I bought my chromed 2002 wheels from a friend I wanted my grill in chrome and did not want to spend $300 , so I tried chromed tape and that didn't work too well, except for the bolt on my front emblem, then I looked around in the auto stores and found the wheel molding which worked out perfectly! The good thing about this is that it's very durable and if it does get scratched, just replace it, $10 a roll, can't argue with that.
It's so amazing that when you walk into an auto store or a Home Depot you're always thinking of ways to invent or make stuff for our Lightnings, I wonder how many people have done this?.
My newest project came from stuff I bought from Home Depot and the auto store and that's my Nastruck Spoiler that attaches to my tailgate, it looks a lot better than the older model I made earlier. I'll post pics of it soon.
