Door Gaps

My passenger side door on my '01 does'nt meet up with the cab at the bottom, it sticks out about 1/4" to much and i think thats where my wind noise is coming from because the gasket isnt sealing all the way. Why would it be like this and how can I fix it

From: Colorado,
If your patient you can try adjusting it yourself by moving the hinges around.

The fastners have adjustment slots to help get the fit right.

FIRST Thing!!!!!! Before you start get a fine tip marker and trace along the outsid of the hinge so you have a reference point to its current position.

Don't loosen the bolts all the way. Keep one or two snug so you have to push hard to get movement.

The whole job will be easier with at least two and maybe three people. You will also need some flat stock or tire irons wrapped with tape so you don't scratch the paint and use them to pry the door from the jam area to get your fit.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you might take it to good body shop and let them do it but it will cost you.

Good Luck! I have spent hours adjusting doors on other cars I own and have even used aluminum pop cans to make shims. You can cut them with house scissors and stack them.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Ounce you get the door sitting right you will have to adjust the door strike.

The whole frigging thing is an excersize in frustration. I'm sorry you reminded me about it.

Worst of all, now I will go out and look at my truck to see if my new 04 is correct.
I can't help myself.

Thanks alot for the great reply. Now that I have looked at it better I think that the top door hinge needs to be shimmed, because the top of the door is in to far, and the bottom of the door sticks out past the cab. So I think if it was shimmed it would even it out. Is this a normal problem on our trucks?, does anyone else have this?

I hear Mountain Dew cans give you 3 extra HP!

Seriously... I never would have thought of that! That is a great idea!
